Will the Cowboys cut Schultz?

I say no, simply because he’s a 4th round pick and it’s never easy to admit when you’re wrong, but Schultz hasn’t done anything to justify making the 53.

Comparing him to Rico puts this situation into perspective. Rico was a 6th round pick who hadn’t played football since middle school and, by all accounts, “has no idea what he’s doing”. Schultz hasn’t done a single thing better than Rico, including blocking.

The comparison doesn’t get better for him from there. Schultz is said to be a very technically sound player. Rico is finding more success than him on physical stature & raw athletic ability alone. Technical skills can be learned, size & athleticism cannot. That’s not to say Schultz can’t improve. Experience helps everyone, and he can stand to gain more weight, but there’s no denying Rico has a vastly higher ceiling and hasn’t come close to scratching it. Schultz may better understand what he’s doing, but he’s already closing in on his ceiling. Not only that, but if this is Rico’s floor, he’s already a better player than Schultz may ever be.

If we keep three TEs, I hope our front office swallows their pride and keeps the better player, which has obviously been Rico.

I'm in complete agreement with you. I'd keep Gather over Schultz. The rookie simply isn't ready, and I'll risk sending him to the practice squad for a year.

I feel the same about the Bo Scarbrough - Darius Jackson competition. Jackson is the better player right now.

Has Ricos floor better than Shultz will ever be haha.

Rico has done nothing, Shultz has done nothing. Both have potential but Rico is so hyped up. He isn't far better than Shultz just like Shultz isn't far better than Rico. Difference is Shultz is a rookie and came from Stanford, I have no concerns about him picking up the game. Shultz is a better blocker than Rico right now so your notion that Shultz doesn't do anything better than Rico is false. Not only that but Shultz has a better understanding of the playbook and his assignments where as Rico is lost and relies on just athletic ability.

What has Rico shown us that makes him better than Schultz?

Here’s the preseason stats, for context.

Gathers
11 TAR, 8 REC, 71 YDS, 8.9 Y/R, 20 YAC
Schultz
10 TAR, 6 REC, 32 YDS, 5.3 Y/R, 13 YAC

And if I find the video of Broaddus agreeing with me that Rico has been a batter blocker than Schultz, I’ll post the link.

Why would they admit they are wrong before they even know that to be true?

The guy just turned 22 last month and will surely get stronger after a year.
His blocking technique is good, he has good size, speed, and agility. He also apparently picks up the playbook with ease.
He is what they thought he was for the 137th pick (comp pick after 4th round is over) coming out of a run oriented college offense. He will need some time but he very well may end up very good.

Not saying the numbers game won't force them to try and pass him to the PS.

I agree that Rico--who is 2 1/2 years older and has some nice raw skills--making the 53 would not be a surprise at this point.
But that's not throwing in the towel on Shultz.

while tonight the overall game does not matter it will matter to the bubble players and Schultz very well could be one of them. Last chance for some guys to make this team.

Rico is in his third year and we are still talking about him not having the mental aspect part of the game down yet so let's give the rookie some slack here. Let's not go off the deep end.
Seems like some find a need to not only convince others that their pet player is worthy, but also need to bash his competition in the process to do it....
All this Romo vs any other QB, Dak vs any other QB, Romo vs Dak, Rico vs Swaim/Schultz/Jarwin, when it doesn't have to be that.

I think Rico should stay only because we can afford to lose any ONE of them, might as well keep Rico for one more year and see what he can give us.

Come on, man. That's not happening. But as Switzer showed us, you can hold out hope that they could trade him for some other team's disappointment if they grow disenchanted with him.

..well, you have Rico & Swaim plus Jarwin. I havent seen anything that you can keep on Schultz. I think tonight is big for all of them. Lets see who wants a job for the Winter.
