Cowboys care about their player's feelings often at the expense of what is best for the team. So, he will not play LT even if Tyron were to struggle. The only way he plays LT is if Tyron is injured which he probably will be at some point. Even then they will try to play someone else at LT unless Tyler has blown them away in practices. So, he most likely will play exclusively OG unless things really go off the rails.

I think they’d prefer to keep Tyler at guard if at all possible for his entire rookie year.

That might actually be the linchpin for our offensive downfall. The moment that Tyler replaces Tyron at LT this season could be when everything goes in the toilet like last year.

Can Tyron play LG? Would it be easier on his body? I mean we've had tackles switch to G here before successfully, and Tyron is below market value even for Guards these days

I certainly hope you're right, I want to see him stay at LG all season. Hopefully they find someone else to back up Tyron at LT.

LT is Tyron Smith's job. How much Tyler Smith plays there depends on Tyron's health. So it's a guessing game that nobody know's the answer to at this point.

McGovern is our top reserve guard, behind Martin at RG, and provides great depth for once.
Unfortunately McGovern was 'turrible' to quote Charles Barkley.

His issues seem to be more mental than physical.
  • It's hard to explain why McGovern was not better.
    • It reminds me of my golf game. People say 'your form and swing look really good'.
      • Unfortunately, the results don't match the aesthetics...
      • On the driving range I can hit a 2-iron 300 yards which most people can't do, but once on the course my game falls apart.
    • McGovern seems to have decent foot quickness and a little more power than Connor Williams.
      • He did dumb things like try to put his shoulder pad into the waist of a defender.
      • Once an OL gets his head down like that, it's over. That's something that works on a 3rd and 1 run play, not on a pass play.
  • On the flip-side, Farniok came into camp as a late round rookie and had better technique than McGovern.
    • I didn't really see any significant limitations with Farniok.
      • He was already 312 when drafted and had better technique than some early round type OL that we've seen in the past.
      • He started some games at OT in college; therefore, I assume that he has sufficient athleticism to play OG/OC.
    • At a minimum, Farniok is the backup OC.
      • McGovern played a few snaps at OC in the 2021 regular season and Dak was never in shotgun on those snaps.
      • They obviously don't trust McGovern to shotgun snap.
