Ware has to be let go. If Pitt can move on from Woodley, Minny from Allen, Jerry must make the tough decision to release ware. It makes good business sense. If that move is made, i expect a few moves

If he agrees to the pay cut then they can afford Hatcher. Of course they need to avoid the dumb mistake they made with Ware and sign Hatcher to a realistic, cap-friendly deal.

1) We only have around $1.5M right now. We could cut Ware right now and save $7M on the cap. That would give us around $8M to shop. We could get a couple of players - maybe LB Woodyard, DL Melton and/or Hatcher. That would be about it. We would designate austin a June 1st cut and use the $5M savings after June 1st to sign draft picks and have some money left over for contingency during camp and the season.

2) We have around $1.5M right now. We could designate Ware a June 1st cut and we would get $12M this year but the money would only be available after June 1st. Austin would also be cut June 1st making $5M available at that time.

I'm not sure the Cowboys know which direction they will go yet. First, it depends if Ware takes a paycut.Second, it depends on how fast the FA market is moving and what the prices are. Ideally, we'd like to wait until after the draft and June 1st. But, will FAs be available that late? That is the big question. No one knows for sure.

I say go with 1 if we looking to improve this crappy defense this year and lessen the cap it for next year (from making ware and Austin a june first cut). I mean I would love the extra cap dollars but we wouldn't be able to do squat with only 1.5m now. But idk if I want to risk signing damage goods (melton) or hatcher. IDK decision's.

Like I said, only limited if we choose to be. What does active in free agency mean? Signing 3 guys? 5? 10? We can pick up a lot of money very quickly if we choose to.

And for those that say free agency is fool's gold, the Niners, Seahawks and Broncos all have been active in free agency.

I do like the fact that the Jones' gang is saying the right stuff about building through the draft and not planning to be huge players. I would prefer that they be more choosy and do their homework on anyone they consider adding. Isn't this where we find out how good Will McClay is doing? Isn't he the director of pro personnel, ie scouting the NFL for players? He did a good job in finding cheap guys last year as players continued to fall. Would be interesting to see what he can do when shopping for quality.

Seems like Jones contradicts himself though....have seen reports where he feels Dallas can compete for a Super Bowl, then other reports where he plans to sit pat. Not sure you can do both. To me it's either give it a run or start over.

Predictions. ... Will we see the Cowboys make any notable moves early, or will we watch other teams get better overnight while JJ stays quiet? Will tomorrow make all the folks who said our cap wasn't as bad as it seems look smart, or just foolishly hopeful? What do you think?

Jerry's been using 1 credit card to make payments on another credit card for several years now so we can't make any "notable" FA signings.
