I hope so. With a better D line especially, I believe we would have gotten past the Packers and maybe the Falcons too. the Pats .................. someone up there had a sick sense of humor, pulling strings for them.

We need a new Charles Haley.

Every year we hope to have a better D and according to the many wishful thinkers here we will but we never do. It's the same defense every year regardless of DC and personnel changes. We have issues mounting a consistent pass rush especially in the 4th quarter when games are on the line. We're average to poor in coverage, we don't force many turnovers and we miss a lot of tackles. What else is new! We bend but don't break until our season is on the line. It's the same frustrating story year after year with the defense.

I think the D-line and LB corp will be better. However, the secondary could take a hit depending on what happens in FA.

While I feel your frustration, lets hope that someone.....anyone.....in this organization learned a lesson from wasting Romo's career without a D. I'm not a fan of spending big in FA, but sometimes you've gotta quit trying to plug holes with bargain basement players and pull the trigger on guys that can get you over the hump, ala Haley. Otherwise, we're going to keep seeing the SOS every year.....

Romo's career hasn't been wasted, the defense has been good enough at times for us to go far but it always breaks down against elite QBs in the playoffs. The final month of the 09 season the D looked the best it had in a decade, finishing that season with a huge strip sack of Drew Brees to knockoff the 13-0 Saints and ended the season with back to back shutouts but Favre took us apart in the divisional round. If we want to have a chance to improve on defense we have to stop wasting #2 picks on injured players, drug addicts and TEs to play behind Witten.

The defense has shown some, if marginal, improvement the past couple years. It's not at all dominant, and can obviously be had by an elite QB.

We were close this year. If we can get marginal improvement again, it could be enough to get us over the hump. We don't have to be Denver in 2015 good to win a Super Bowl.

Neither team in the big game yesterday had a great defense. New England's was good enough. Atlanta's would have been good enough had Shanahan simply run the ball late.

Ours might have been good enough this year had we just run the ball in a couple spots against GB.

Our D was better than Atlanta's. Whinny Cowboys fans are overacting to one game.

Do they need a 10+ sack guy? Yes,,, Atlanta had a 10 sack guy and their defense was still TERRIBLE.

Could they use 2 or 3 more Db's? Yes

Are they terrible? No they are right in line with the rest of the league. Cowboys fans start whinnying after one completion.

Atlanta gave up, what, 3(4) straight TD drives? It's the league.

That's spot on. In general you build through the draft. It's not possible with the cap to go out and sign the best free agents at every position. However, the occasional high-end free agent can be the perfect signing for a need. A team's got to be very selective with that, however.

I was told by some zoners that Ryan Russell, mayowa, Irving, and tank was the future and we just need to sit back and watch them grow, develop, and rack up the sacks on our way to the Super Bowl.

The off season training camp fluff pieces had Ryan Russell as havoc maker, destroyer, much improved and stringer. Mayowa was the hidden gem with quick twitch fibers that would would make Spider-Man jealous. Tank had a year under his belt and without Hardy, it was his time to shine.....Irving just needed more reps

Yeah yeah yeah. You come out with the same Dline you gonna get the same results next year

Remains to be seen. Hopefully we improve the front. I trust that the front office sees it.
