I was curious if any of you are going to see the "Concussion" movie. It seems to be a piece of liberal propaganda - though I am curious I shall resist the pull into the theater...as it seems to be a push to change the physical nature of American football.

This is a game of gladiators who are paid to fight to the death if need be. We have to stop feminizing the sport.

Saw it today. I thought it started off strong, but petered out pretty quickly. It's the same basic plot as The Insider (1999), but not nearly as good. There wasn't really all that much tension or suspense and I thought it fell flat. He got a couple of random phone calls, and the NFL told him to go crap in a hat. Big deal. Luke Wilson as Goodell was laughable.

They didn't even try to make him look or sound like Goodell. I'm pretty sure all of his lines were just speeches he was giving on TV or at a seminar. The acting was really good, sans Luke Wilson. The script and plot, not so much.

Frontline League of Denial was much better.

Leave the politics out of it.

If this were about safety issues, they would be going after Soccer or Rugby.

Exactly. I have two kids playing youth soccer and both coaches still teach headers. We see them every single game we have from our teams and opponents. I'm not going to get riled up about the concussion syndrome for pro football players. They got/get paid a life changing amount of money, and as dumb as anyone may be, they had to realize constantly banging your head into things was not good for your brain. They knew there were risks with that money. I take much more issue with the retirement/insurance the players of the 70s and 80s were receiving than this.

I don't have any remote doubt that these bigger, faster, stronger, and more explosive football players are causing severe brain damage to each other.
I still love football though. :)

All my doctor friends have been saying since my son was born to put him in other sports besides football. Even the coaches in my family are leaning that way now.

I'll see the movies at some point. No rush though.

I've seen it.

It was a good movie that could have been better.

I think it will make parents think twice about letting their kids play football, but I don't think it will have much influence on the NFL and their practices.

I think it isn't too far in the future before they go after soccer. Soccer is a little behind the NFL in terms of finding cases of CTE. The first confirmed case of a soccer player with CTE was not linked until late 2012. The first case in the NFL occurred in 2002. The concussion protocols have begun changing in the major European soccer leagues and will continue to evolve amidst growing pressure.

The movie was just okay. The information that was presented in the movie is very interesting, but the film itself is lacking in my opinion. It wasn't horrible and it wasn't great. Just an average overall movie.
