Will Zeke get off to another slow start?

I hope Zeke doesn't have a slow start like he has his first two seasons.
The first year against the Giants, he was obviously struggling to adjust to the speed of the game.
He was very impatient and not waiting for his blocks to develop.
Last year, it seems the suspension drama was weighing on him and may have been a major factor in another slow start.
Hopefully, with all of the drama gone and his renewed focus, he will hit the ground running like the superstar athlete/RB he is.

Me, I'm looking for a 2,000+ total yardage season from Zeke Elliott. Also about 16+ TD's.

He had 104 yards in last year’s opener
Then 8 yds on 9 attempts against DEN... and then 80 yds on 22 att against AZ. Then 85 yds on 21 attempts against LAR.

In 2016, game 1, 51 yds on 21 attempts against NYG, then 83 yds on 21 attempts against the Skins, week 2.

OP has a valid question. We need Zeke flying out the gate, week one. He was 4th overall selected. He is the lynchpin of this offense, as it is constructed, now. Zeke needs to eat starting week 1, and not relent.

It ain’t how you start, but how you finish. Not worried about Zeke.

I am not worried about Zeke or the running game as a whole. But I would shocked if it doesn't struggle the first game or two. It is impossible to get the OL in sync with just practice. They need game reps. And since most didn't have many snaps in PS, I don't expect our run game will be all world for a couple of weeks. After that, I do think the run game will be our cow bell and carry the O.

Listening to announcers during the triplets time, they'd talk about how our offensive line wore defenses down. In the third or fourth quarter, no one had enough energy to stop the run and Emmitt ran all over the opposition. I expect things to go pretty much the same way now except when we face poor run stopping defenses.

Zeke is the best pure HB in the game. He is hungry by all accounts, and many think he wants revenge for the railroad job that Goodell did on him.

With that said, we need the difference maker that he can be to produce, starting week 1. And no drop off. Consistency early on. He has that gear he hits after about week 3 where he abuses the league, we need that week 1. Especially with all the question marks surrounding the rest of the offense's skill positions.

Zeke needs to come out the gate like Secretariat and never slow down.

That's just how good Zeke is. As a rookie he won the rushing title handily, could have went over 2000 if it wasn't for JG and his cupcake approach to the playoffs. Last year he also gained a 1000 yards and was suspended 6 games. I expect a monster year from Zeke, but we do need him hitting on cylinders from the get go.

I would be surprised if he got off to a fast start. He hasn’t played one snap in preseason. Regular season NFL speed isn’t like practice but preseason can help ease him into it. Someone posted stats that show he starts off kind of slow the last 2 years.

But.. he is going into his 3rd year. As weird as it sounds he isn’t a rookie anymore. He has been through the grind a few times now. No looming suspension over his head this year. He is used to playing behind this line. They say he was looking amazing in practice. He may just get off from the start of the season and not look back. I am hoping so.

How many snaps does the staff give him in the first game. Does he get at least 20? They may want to ease him into regular season. Rod may get as many carries as Elliot. If Eliot is running down hill then I would give him 25 easy. But that’s just me.

HIstory says yes.... Dude just does some light practice work, played in zero preseason games not one minute, not to mention even dating back to his rookie year when he took a few snaps it took him a week or two too find his gears.

Im gonna guesstimate by week 3 he will be purrring like the ferrari he is

No.

The reason(s) he got off to slow start those 2 years don't exist.

This year it's rocketship Zeke starting Sunday afternoon.
IMO last year was not only the Suspension looming but think about it the same exact thing does exist this year, remember LC switch to RT and our Cooper at LG, they took awhile to gel..this year we have Fredrick out, Martin Dinged and the offense hasn't played much at all together and who can block like witten and Hannah?lots of question marks..his slow starts are not uncommon with other backs it takes while to switch to full game speed and get that rhythm going..he will be fine

Yeah. So more obstacles for him to climb above. Let's hope 2018 is different than the previous two season's starts...
