Win v loss this weekend and Dallas' draft history

So by now we know that a win this weekend against the Eagles will drop us significantly in the draft order. We don't know exactly how far but it seems, according SDogo and others in here, that we're likely to pick at 5th or 6th with a loss and about 10th or 11th with a win. We assume that higher picks will yield better selections but is this true? The draft isn't, as some people like to say, a total crapshoot but there are a lot of unknowns involved and, therefore, a lot of mistakes get made on draft day. Some teams are better at drafting than others and some teams draft relatively better in certain rounds and certain years.

I went back and compiled two lists: the 14 total 5th and 6th players chosen between 2000 and 2006 and the same for the 10th and 11th players. I decided to cut it off at 2006 because anyone earlier hasn't yet compiled a proper record. Then I chose a relatively painless way of quantifying success -- games played. Sure, this is very crude but it was fast and close enough for government work. If someone were interested in doing the research to properly beef this up, be my guest. The data is below. You could add Pro Bowls and All Pro selections off the top of my head.

The 5th and 6th players had a total of 1,202 games played (just under 86 per player) and the 10th and 11th had 955 (just over 68 per player). Also, keep in mind that Sean Taylor -- a 5th round pick in 2004 --was murdered in the prime of his career. This certainly looks significant on the surface. On the other hand, if you look at the names the number of truly great players seems to be about the same. The earlier group has a couple great running backs while the latter is loaded with great defensive players.

There were 2 players in the 5 and 6 range who played less than 40 total games in their careers: Jonathan Sullivan and Pacman Jones. There were three for the 10th and 11th picks: Jamal Reynolds, Mike Williams, and Matt Leinart.

Here are the full lists if anyone's interested:

5th and 6th: Jamal Lewis (131 games), Corey Simon (95), LaDaimian Tomlinson (141), Richard Seymour (127), Quentin Jammer (125), Ryan Sims (99), Terrance Newman (103), Jonathan Sullivan (38), Sean Taylor (55), Kellen Winslow (60), Cadillac Williams (69), Pacman Jones (39), AJ Hawk (64), and Vernon Davis (56)

10th and 11th: Travis Taylor (101), Ron Dayne (96), Jamal Reynolds (18), Dan Morgan (60), Levi Jones (103), Dwight Freeney (117), Terrell Suggs (109), Marcus Truffant (104), Duanta Robinson (84), Ben Roethlisberger (88), Mike Williams (30), DeMarcus Ware (80), Matt Leinart (29), and Jay Cutler (53).

ON EDIT: the thread title is misleading -- I originally was going to research Dallas' draft history and then changed my mind to look at recent NFL-wide history but forgot to change the thread title. Maybe a mod could fix it?
