This team needs a huge splash in free agency and the draft.

Jerry has a long track record of going for the big splash - that ends up burning high draft picks and cap space on trash.

As long as the coaching is garbage, and they keep building top-heavy rosters with no depth, nothing matters and any good runs (2014, 2016) depend on pure luck in a league with a very high injury rate.

The Patriots were 2 starters short on the OL yesterday and made Mack an afterthought anyway. The week before they were short a tackle and shut down Von Miller. That's what coaching and depth get you.

One of the team's biggest problems is second round draft choices. Other than Tank, they have pretty much sucked. Lee is great, but is prone to miss a large part of the season.

Oh that’s not true. We went 13-3 last year and were a few plays from the NFC Championship game.

We lost two of our three games early in the season without Sean Lee.

We just cannot overcome the loss of Lee, Smith and Zeke.

If we had decent coaching, we’d be in the playoffs every year.

A "window" is more than a one year run. A "window" means you have a young, talented and even deep football team that will compete over a prolonged period of time. The same question was being asked in 2014 and we flopped the following year. Right now, this team has been exposed and we have as many question marks as we do answers.

Don’t think we’ve been in a window....

We have a defense that hasn’t been dominant since wade left as DC...

We now have a young QB that we’re asking to win us games like a Romo, Rodgers, Tom Brady

Team is garbage. Every year, since 2011, it's been "The players are just young, once they get experienced and hit their primes, we'll be great!" That was the case for Dez, Bruce Carter, Mo Claiborne, Crawford, Church, Terrance Williams, etc. etc. and many of those players just never lived up to expectations or aren't even on the team anymore. The same thing will happen to Irving, Lawrence, Hitchens, all these young DBs. We replace them with new players in the draft to be excited about and then 4 years later, nothing ever happens. Rinse and repeat.

You realize we are like the 2nd youngest team in the NFL right? So how is the window closing?

Is this team window closing? Think about it... Martin, Hitchens, Irving and D Law are set to be FA''s after this season. Can this team afford these guys and I don't recall anyone else waiting in the wing. This team needs to win now! I knew we wasn't going to beat the Eagles last night but the rest of the schedule should be manageable without Zeke, Tryon and Lee but our coaching staff is lacking.
I don't think so. this team is still got a lot of talent. we need upgrade in certain areas, but need better than bottom of the barrel FAs that we cut mid season. a real threat at WR, a good strong safety and another LB given sean lee is out half the time......

and some new offensive and defensive schemes that are more aggressive. I don't think Philly CBs are better than ours, but they played aggressively, while we played backing on our heels. we play passively while they were aggressive. can't remember the last time we blitzed. or got creative on defense.

not having zeke exposed the passing game. the telling stat for me was Witten a 35 year old TE was the leading receiver. as much as I like Witten, I mean come on....

The window never closes if you have a QB. There's plenty of room under the salary cap to keep the guys you want, and there's a draft and free agency every year. Teams change every year, dramatically. How many players from Tom Brady's SB wins have been there for most of them? Hardly any. You keep the true difference makers, and you keep rebuilding everywhere else. The window for this team isn't even beginning to close. When you have a QB like Romo in his mid-thirties with injuries, that's a closing window.

This is ESPN bs. your beloved Pats are far more involved in the big splash recently. Who grabbed the top FA CB and WR this past off season? Not Jerry.

The Cowboys haven't splashed in FA in a long, long, long time. 2nd round picks are Jerry's specialty, as that seems to be the deal he struck with Stephen.

But how many holes has to be refilled and gain experience? Super Bowls are done in Windows. After that teams stack pile and make another bid. Look at NE Patriots run 2002, 2004, 2005 then 2015 and 2017.

Nope! Window not closing. Leadership from a coaching standpoint from HC down, looks that way. I don’t have an answer. Not good at this point. Excuses are running out.

This has pretty much been the "window" of this organization for the past 2 plus decades.

Players have windows
Teams do not.
A well ran organizations window never closes.

You could make that argument. Look at each position unit:

QB: Romo is done. If Dak isn't the next franchise QB, we've just entered another dark era like post-Troy.
RB: Zeke is a beast. Brightest spot on the team. But he's a strike away from a lifetime ban and RBs have short shelf lives.
WR: Dez could very well have not much time left in Dallas. Not much to smile about behind him.
TE: Witten is done. We don't seem to have a replacement plan.
OL: We see how difficult it is to keep this unit playing sharp after losing Leary and Free. Add in Smith's back/groin and Martin's contract coming up. Could very well go back to being just a regular OL.

DE: Lawrence is beasting but could very well be gone next year. Who else do we have? Gregory?
DT: Collins is having a down year and Irving's set to be a RFA. We also just lost a bunch of 1-techs.
LB: It's been Lee and only Lee forever now. Smith might not ever live up to the hype and Hitchens' contact is coming up.
CB: Lewis has potential. Brown has regressed. Scandrick might be gone. No stars have emerged.
S: Might be back to the drawing board if the Jones experiment is ruled a failure.
