Microsoft is threatening no more Windows 10 upgrades after tomorrow.

Go here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Use the tool and say download the ISO for a DVD/USB. Just download the ISO then if/when you ever want to upgrade to Windows 10 from 7/8/8.1 You can do it for free AFTER MS says you can't.

Don't forget to backup or burn to a DVD afterwards so you don't lose it!

Bastiages.

Fo'Free! Eat it MS!

Actually, I am fairly certain you actually have to upgrade to Windows 10 in order to flag it as Windows 10 eligible from now on.

Many experts have been saying you can upgrade, which flags your current Windows 7/8 product key as Windows 10 eligible, then downgrade back to your current OS and that would work.

Just downloading a copy of Windows 10 would be no different than someone giving you a copy. You will still need a Windows 10 Product Key after tomorrow.

Someone else told me the same thing, but I will have my help desk team validate that on Monday if I can.

I just saw how they are doing it. It's based on your PC specs which means it's not like all other Windows OS. So, if you upgrade your motherboard, you have to buy a new copy of Windows.

Looks like I may finally dump windows all together.

Still doing some upgrades to a few older lap tops at work today.
Trying to get them all to Windows 10.

Some are being difficult...especially some HPs that have HP security programs on them and you have to uninstall about 5-7 of those programs before you can fully update but they only tell you that, and give you the list of programs, after it pretty much goes through most of the updates...grrr

For me, Windows 10 is no great shakes.

I have had them all, as I am sure many of you have.

For practical use and efficiency. Windows 7 is still my champion.

I'm on Windows 7 at work and 10 at home.

I really don't have any gripes about 10 after changing some privacy settings.

Good.

Tired of my PC spamming me constantly to upgrade for free.

You think that will stop if you don't upgrade and the deadline passes? :D

I suspect it will be, "Now you must upgrade and pay for it!" nag screens :)

I upgraded to Windows 10 just to set my system "Digital Entitlement" (Microsoft's new catch phrase) flag. I'm still debating whether to stick with it.

I cloned my boot SSD to an identical SSD before I upgraded though in case I wanted a fast rollback.

The process went smoothly though I had to disable a ton of settings for privacy protection and annoyance prevention. I also disabled the Windows Upgrade service and downloaded an app from Microsoft to let me hide updates I don't want, not that there are any yet. It's just nice to have the option and more importantly, to control when the update process runs.

That said, I really don't do much with Windows itself so I really just need it to work.

Watch traffic passing from your PC. Even when you turn off the crap it sends to Microsoft, I hear it sends it anyhow. (ignoring you telling it no) My plan was to find where it was going and block it at the firewall.

I just bought a new HP laptop with windows 10. Should I use the iso download from Microsoft for a clean install or use decrapify type software? (debating)

You can use Wireshark and just blacklist the ip in your hosts file.
