I upgraded from Windows 7. It took a little getting used to but I like it. Microsoft Edge, the edgy internet browser for Windows 10. lol!

The day it came out I upgraded a test machine at work. It went so well I upgraded my personal work machine the same day. That went so well I upgraded my home personal computer that same evening. I've upgraded a few other machines since then and only had one person with any real issue but he was able to correct it. The biggest issue seems to be with network drivers. I had to reinstall them after the upgrade. Since that first day Microsoft has put out updates which may have resolved those minor issues.

If you're happy with what you have then there's no need to upgrade. Windows 7 will still be supported until 2020. The new browser, Microsoft Edge, is pretty good and will get better as it develops over time but there's no "killer app" to compel you to upgrade. If you do upgrade there's a small chance that things could go horrible wrong (backup first). Also, some apps (such as VPN clients or specialized software) may not perform in Windows 10 yet. If you have an app you must use then double check it. I upgraded because I like having the latest stuff and I'm ready to replace Windows 7 on computers at my office. I enjoy the faster boot times and other small changes. However, Windows 7 would still be fine for me if I didn't upgrade.

One other thought ... if you're planning to keep this computer past 2020 you may want to upgrade so you don't lose support. If you're going to replace it by then you could wait until your next computer to get Windows 10.

I did it first on my desktop, because it was a no-brainer, liked it a lot had no problems. Then about a month ago I thought might as well put it on the old laptop I usually use outside of big projects or gaming. And I regret it big time on the laptop. It keeps freezing over and over and over, like 30 hard reboots to get it started without the freeze thing.

I have figured out it has something to do with the SSD and even Windows repair program kicked in on BIOS, it first analyzed it then started to repair but only got to 25% and froze. It only tried to do that on its own twice.

I put my laptop on sleep all the time anyway but if there is an update for anything at anytime, it is back to freezing hell in perpetuity.

I did notice only a small handful of times on the desktop that it had a long pregnant pause between BIOS and OS but that only froze completely once. Most of the time the boot up on that is slightly longer than it was on Windows 7. The desktop still doesn't have the 1511 update, once that is on it will boot up faster.

On its fastest boot up the laptop is actually faster(w/1511 and patches for it) than it use to be but that is a one out of 50 or whatever hard restarts,

I upgraded to Win 10 from Win 7 Professional a couple weeks ago...

I like it.

On my desktop it comes up faster than 7.

In addition I like the interface better than 7.

My only gripe is that I lost my pdf thumbnails, but overall things seem to load quicker.

First off, you should always wait for the first service pack before installing the "new" Windows OS.

So, no I haven't and don't plan too until above said is true.
Windows 10 is fat.

Windows 10 is fat.

and wears it's hat backwards.

i loved win10 to start. little things are starting to creep up on me that will happen almost regardless of what you do. ******** like:

thread_stuck_in_device_driver and i must say, the bluescreen has some such a long way you almost look forward to it. until the 4th time then it's old as hell and you consider another $100 video card just to stop the random hangs and reboots.

other program compatibility issues have crept in but nothing i wasn't expecting and knew i'd have to upgrade the software. well, until they wanted $300 and then i just found another solution but either way, problem solved. :)

the UI is pretty slick, i must admit. i'd like to have more control of my start menu but i'm sure it's in there somewhere. right click on all programs didn't do much for me last night but i OH LOOK A SQUIRREL'd it and went off doing something else before i cared enough to look on how to edit the menu. i'm not much of a fan of the tiles and brady bunch/partridge family look - never was and one huge reason i hated win 8.x - but in 10, it's livable.

not sure what i'll need to do on the video issue above on my ati. it was geforce in previous versions and now it's radeon. go figure. always video.

i'm glad i did it. i hate to say it cause i still hate MS but win7 was going to go away sooner or later and 10 looked like the next best place to jump.

a friend did ask if i was going to go back to win7 and i said no - nothing was so bad, yet, that i will reformat and start my overly complex environment over again. unless SSD prices come down...that on the C would rock. :)

On a couple of machines I started having little issues with W10 after an upgrade. I'm not sure the cause of those issues but I wound up buying a copy of Windows 10 ($99 for Home or $199 for Pro) and doing a fresh install. This resolved those little issues.

if i do format it will be on a 500gb ssd for the main drive likely and a fresh win10 install. a lots happened since 7 and none of it good or pretty. :) if i have to enema the OS then it's new drive time and my 3tb becomes 3tb again after a bad C drive experience. :)

almost worth it - if i have to spend $150 to fix a video issue, get a faster drive and kill a sunday afternoon while watching tv...

I don't trust anything after Windows 7

Compatibility issues.
Older programs I need to work.

I don't feel like relearning new versions of programs for no reason. The new version improvements don't help me.

I may upgrade win8.1 just to see try it out on one pipe

Apple just has the tablet layout perfected.

Windows should leave it alone.

hey - i'm into MS bashing as much as the next person, but 8.1? that's like upgrading from a good solid chevy to a yugo because it's newer.

then again that would be one old yugo.

8.x is a complete and total waste of time right on the line of winME and a few other similiar versions. it was a hack from the word go and HORRIBLE interface. comparing it to apple is a bigger waste of time.

the surface tablet is not bad at all. i can see some things on it people would like. i just have no need for a "windows" tablet because i have (3) Pc's running around the house if i need that. for tablet use i have my nexus zenpad and love it to death. keep your apples. :)

10.x is much closer to the 7 experience than 8.x but hey - your computer.

100% agreement
It's a Sony vain that came with win 7 but the person I bought it from upgraded to win8.1 double yuck... I was like why? Couldn't you leave win 7 lol

Win 8 is like vista - blah

Agreed again. I don't need Windows tablet .... iPad does all I need. Just got iPad pro. Fast and sweet.

I like it. I have had a Windows Phone so it was easy to pick it up once I migrated from Windows 7.

Boots up much faster, links to my x-box account so I can download games that I previously purchased for my phone.

Another cool thing is that I bought an X-Box One for Christmas, which also runs on Windows 10 and will allow me to mirror games on my laptop. Should come in handy when I want to watch the TV and my son wants to play Halo.

what i HATE and will never get used to - are the buttnugget stupid apps that take the whole screen *as if* it were a phone. kinda defeats the purpose of "windows" at that point.

My daughter's friend gave her a laptop with Windows 10 on it. Yesterday I installed Linux Mint on it so she can dual boot into either. She prefers linux so the odds are Windows 10 will never get used. When I was accessing the uefi to set up the Mint install I messed around with 10 a little bit, and I absolutely hate the start menu - or whatever you call that block filled disaster. Much prefer Windows 7, it just looks a lot cleaner to me.

Is the only advantage to win10 the quick boot up?
