That one is on my list along with some Robin Hobb stuff to read next.
Robin Hobb is good, although I never did read the series about the ships.

Ill look into the Dragonlance book. .

The Huma story is great. But if you're going to read Dragonlance, start with the original 2 trilogies. The Chronicles and the Twins series.

Dragonlance is fairly simplistic in writing style and storyline, but really good anyhow.

Granted, they've only shown about 5-10 seconds of actual footage, but am I the only one that thinks it looks a little too clean? I imagined a much grittier look, but what I've seen looks too tidy. Almost looks cheap.

Robin Hobbs is a pretty decent writer. I read The Farseer Trilogy and the first book of The Livship Traders, I am currently on the second book.

I Just wish GRRM would hurry up and finish the series. The last book was a major disappointment.

So will each Season be based on 1 book?

That was the original plan. Not sure if they've altered it.

I know we're talking years down the line here, but as long as it's taken to write this current book he's been working on, eventually the series is going to start pushing his book release dates.

Maybe this is a good thing though...

Thumbs up on the Liveship Traders series by Robin Hobb. Her best imo. She develops a ton of characters, and has one of the most interesting villains.

Another favorite fantasy series of mine starts with Soldier in the Mist, by Gene Wolfe. The main character, Latro, is a Latin mercenary with the Persian army in the Golden Age of Greece (~400bc), who suffers a terrible head wound. When he recovers, he can't remember anything from day to day. The book is written as the scroll he keeps with him to write each day's events, to tell himself who he is and what's been happening. Oh, and he can also see the spirits of the world, and sometimes even the gods.... (also available with it's first sequel as Latro in the Mist.)
Very nicely done.

I like GRRM, and have heard great things about this series, but I decided to get and read them all at once, once he had finished it. Obviously, this has turned out to be a failing plan. Looking forward to the show, in any case.

There hasn't been close to enough footage shown to make any judgement. The part I've seen showing Ned getting ready to behead the deserter looks like pure awesome, just as I imagined the scene.

Since we're now using this thread to also discuss other fantasy series, Steven Erikson's "Malazan Book of the Fallen" series is another very good one, though much of the first book is introducing a LOT of different characters, so that first book mostly feels slow to develop. It's totally worth it to stick with it though.

Ive heard mixed reviews and have been debating if i should pick the series up.

To everyone talking about robin hobb. I bought all three books of the farseer trilogy and picked up the 1st one about 5 times and read the first 50 or so pages each time, I just didnt get into it. Ill eventually stick it out though.
