Package this years 2nd and next years 2nd to Minnesota for pick 25
1a. Chance Warmack | OG | Alabama
1b. D.J. Fluker | OT | Alabama
3. D.J. Swearinger | S | South Carolina
4. Jawan Jamison | RB | Rutgers
5. Matt Scott | QB | Arizona
6. Braxston Cave | C | Notre Dame
Summary:
This is a make or break year for Garrett and he knows it. With being handcuffed by the cap in FA, the best way for us to improve this team is through the draft with cheap, young, blue chip talent. It's time for us to get serious about retooling this line, especially if Garrett plans on sticking around. Knowing this, I think JG will be more willing to be the aggressor in this draft, especially if it means trading away a future pick he may not be around to use.
The suggested trade makes this an entirely different offense, one that can sustain a more balanced approach. You plug Warmack and Fluker in on the right side and let them road grade defenders. I believe this is the missing ingredient for us to take that next step, it takes off a ton of pressure from Romo and keeps the defense rested.
The other reason I felt comfortable making that trade is because of the depth at Safety this year. There isn't a big difference between the talent available in the 2nd round compared to the 3rd. If we can't land Swearinger, take Shamarko, if not him then Duke Williams, so on and so forth. We will be able to land a quality safety in Round 3, its the deepest ive seen a position in over a decade.
The 2nd step to my ground and pound theory requires another RB, one that can share carries with Murray but also carry the load if he can't stay healthy. Jawan Jamison is a guy I LOVE who is a bargain in the 4th, I feel he's really one of the sleepers in this draft.
Matt Scott is a guy who is starting to generate buzz so I'm not sure if he'll be here on draft day, but this is where most rankings still slot him and this is my mock so I make the rules :laugh2: . If you live on the WC you're probably familiar with him, if not just know he's a dual threat QB who a lot of scouts feel has starter potential down the road if groomed properly. Seems like a perfect scenario for us.
And Braxston is a guy I enjoyed watching this year. He's not impressing in these pre-draft workouts, which I anticipated, and its causing his stock to fall but he's got a lot of good tape, is strong as heck, and plays with a mean streak. With this being a retooling year along the OL, I'll gladly take a flier on him and let him compete with Costa/Mack for the Center job.
