I just read on GBN this morning that CB Wisconsin junior CB Jack Ikegwuonu, who opted to enter the 2008 draft earlier this month, tore an ACL in a training accident earlier this week and will undergo reconstructive surgery. Ikegwuonu may very well miss the entire 2008 NFL season. Ikegwuonu had been projected as a likely first-day prospect at this year’s draft.

Presumably more will be known about duration necessary to rehab as we get closer to the draft. Remember Canty sled to 4th round because of an eye injury & no doubt Ikegwuonu will do the same. Now I fully expect the Cowboys to use one of our 2 first rounders to get best CB we can but I also feel we need another young CB & think Cowboys should consider Ikegwuonu some time later in 2nd day.

This kid was being projected as a first rounder by a few website and scouts. This kid will fall, he may even go undrafted now.

I dont know about him going in the first round before the injury. I still think he was 2nd or 3rd rounder.

That sucks that he tore his ACL though, Im sure he will get drafted at some point.

He might have a chance to play some next season by going on the PUP list.

Tough news for he and his family. I had a chance to watch a couple of his better ball games this year and came away impressed.

so was cromartie when he was drafted. Lets get him if he is there in the 4th. we have been good in that round lately

Ikegwuonu reminds me a little of a younger more athletic Henry. Neither have great speed.

But both are big physical CBs and ballhawks. I really like Ikegwuonu's toughness & swagger.

Only negative is character/criminal issues. Would not be a bad investment on the 2nd day though. With the ACL (out of action for 2008 season), the pick should be the 5th or lower. First 4 picks should be for potential immediate impact players_or at least starters on ST (Dallas' weakest link last season).

Isn't it more than the torn acl though? I thought I read that has a torn acl, torn mcl, and a busted kneecap.

Originally the thought was that it was more than the ACL. Which is why they said, at first, he'd miss the entire 2008 year for sure.

The newer reports, as of a couple days ago, there isn't the damage to the MCL or the kneecap that they thought was there, so now there is a chance he could play sometime in the 2008 season.

Pick 28- CB (Either Talib or Leonidis would make me drool)

Is Leonidis a condition of increased salivation??

I wonder how far he will slide... I think that someone will pick him up with a late round pick, if it was just the ACL. If that report was right about the ACL,MCL, and patella then Im sure that would affect his draft status even more.

Yeah it would have. Originally they thought it was a really devastating knee injury but after further evaluation, days later, it turns out it wasnt nearly as bad as first though.

As for the increased salivation...anytime I think a corner might come in and be way better than what we have at the 3 spot, or even more importantly one day a better 2, then I'm going to drool. :)

I'd be all in favor of drafting him in the 7th round and stashing him on IR for a year....

Worst case scenario: he never pans out. It only costs us a 7th rounder and we'd likely bust on that pick anyway.

Best case scenario: he comes back from injury and becomes a part of the CB rotation.

I think the rewards greatly outweigh the risks on this....
