I feel any real improvement this year in our defense will be the result of both Lawrence and Jones taking steps in their development.

Jones didnt come away with any picks in 2016 but he was a very steady player and turned in a very good rookie year. A top line season from him could have a trickle down effect in the secondary and allow CBs to to make more plays on the ball.

Lawrence came on very strong the 2nd have of the season and looks poised to to become a pro bowl level pass rusher. He possible(likely) moves to the weakside, but he has the bend and agility to be a strong weakside rusher. A 12 sack season on the weakside isnt out of the question IMO.

While we want to get impact defenders in the early stages of the draft (and we very well could), of your looking for 2016 dividends you should more focused on the guys we drafted early the last couple years

Impact plays in the secondary come with experience
They need to put jones at FS and let him grow instead of moving him around

Looks to be the plan, especially if they are still considering Carroll

Very little FA looks into Safety other then Weddell

I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed in Lawerence this season. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but he was (get ready for this) the DE who had the most 1 on 1 matchups the past season, thanks to Hardy. He was one on one most of the season, Hardy was a big part of the reason for Lawerences success. Believe me or not, stats dont lie.

I am more worried about the back surgery he had last month. Back surgery is nothing to trifle with.

Still got 7 sacks in an 8 stretch. Impressive even if he was facing one on one matchups.

Its not like he was going 1 on 1 VS a TE

Fair point however

I agree he beasted, what worries me is why. One on one against RT is a lot different than 1 on 1 against a LT.

There are no givens. Both him and Jones could fail miserably.

However, Lawrence is young, has the talent to be a threat on the right side and was drafted to play the right side. And he has shown he can put the QB down in the NFL. You gotta start somewhere

Well we need some. Only playmaker we have is Lee and he's injury prone.

Exactly. Corner, safety whatever. Let him stay @ one position and excel.

I want a 2 FS look. Maybe keep Wilcox as a thumper on run downs. Ramsey and Jones are both athletic long fs/cb types. If dallas goes that route with ramsey rod can get creative. If he has it in his vocabulary

as far as pass rush and the defense the cowboys are in trouble already they need to be able to run the ball well or its going to be a really long season and pretty much will be any way with there defense and all the holes on this team its 6 win team at the most

I would love Ramsey. Wilcox was my pet cat before but I don't even consider him a thumper anymore cause he never takes the proper angle to thump. After his ODB hit he didn't have another memorable one

I don't think anyone on this coaching staff has that word in their vocabulary.

Would agree to a point. Hardy did indeed divert some attention. That said, even with Hardy...the Cowboys managed just 31 sacks. Also, D-Law's play improved over the second half of the season...which is actually when Hardy's play/production leveled off and seemingly regressed a bit. Lawrence also of course had a sack in both of the 2015 playoff games, and I believe both came from the right side.

Barring injury or complications from back surgery (he of course already lost a good deal of his rookie season to the broken foot)...I think Lawrence will continue to improve regardless of which side he plays on.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Hardy back on a 1-yr. deal with behavioral clauses/incentives built in to the deal...but it sure seems the team is opposed. Will say I was disappointed in some of his actions after being given a second chance. Would say the same for Gregory. They took a chance given his past transgressions, and he let the team down. Can they afford two known reliability liabilities playing the same position moving forward? And would they want to deal with double the potential headaches/issues?
