Is Connor McGovern destined to take Williams' place, replacing one Connor with another? I know Williams still has a chance to establish himself, but Week 1 wasn't very impressive. Will McGovern be better?

To be determined.

I would say this year if Connor struggles greatly/gets injured it'll be XSF starting at LG. I foresee the 2019 season to be a redshirt year to McGovern due to his pec injury. He lost a lot of time on the field and the gym due to that injury.

Be curious to see how the 2020 TC battle happens at LG.

Yes. Either that or Martin. I mean, we really don't know how bad Martin's back condition is so it could be that we are looking for him to either replace Williams, replace Martin or even Fredbeard, just depending. As talented as our OL is, all three of our best OLs have career type injuries.

I think Williams is going to have to beat him out next summer, which I don't think he will. I dont know that Williams is an NFL guard

Didn't really hear much about Williams or Collins during the game. And when you don't, it's generally a good thing.
Not sure where McGovern fits in now with Collins signed long term. Maybe Williams will still project to Tackle at some point, or even swing tackle with McGovern moving inside. But with both Smith and Martin having back issues, with Fredbeard always having the possibility of a flare up of his condition - having an extra lineman who project to be a starter at some point is a great luxury to have !

Yup, definitely this.

How the heck was week one not very impressive? Williams may be considered our weakest link by some, but that doesn't mean he automatically had a bad game. Did you miss all of those clean pockets Dak had?

hard to judge Cwill was always a better pass blocker then run, run game and blocking not great this game.. when we have a game with a lot more running we will see if he improved.. Xaviers a better run blocker last year but not near as good in pass..

so like everything time will sort that out..

I thought William's played well. He played well last year the final few weeks. He'll continue to get better. As for McGovern, we'll have to wait until next year.

What was wrong with Connor Williams against the Giants?

The Cowboys pass blocking was excellent; therefore I just reviewed all of Connor Williams run blocking snaps.

He was very good in run blocking and as I mentioned the overall pass blocking for the OL was excellent.

I don't know how Connor Williams will look against better defenses but against the Giants I thought he was very good.

Hopefully next off-season (training camp) they have Connor Williams practice and play some preseason game snaps at OT. They really need a backup plan at OT. Fleming is OK for a spot start here and there but if he has to play for an extended period at LT, then it could be ugly.

Connor Williams has Left Tackle quickness. He does not have the perfect build for LT like Tyron but most players don't have that.
