Without R. Gregory, is DE our top need?

Huge loss for us with RE being suspended indefinetly, he improved dramatically last year and became our clear #2 pass rushing force behind Lawrence.

I believe this makes re-signing D.Law a necessity, and he has us by the balls.

Without RE, we have Taco who can step up. Hopefully he is able to, but we still have huge holes at SS, SAM LB (if we move on from Lee and / or Wilson), depth on the o-line, and DT (Irving is done in Dallas)....... + a slot receiver with Beezy likely moving on, as well as needing to add an RB2 (R. Smith can do for another year given circumstances)... never-mind TE, at this point we need to roll with Jarwin / Schultz and hope they can improve Y/Y. Hopefully we can retain Swaim at a decent price for another year.

Given this barrage of bad news.... I think S is now our 3rd top need, after DT and DE. I hope we can land ET on a discount / performance based contract to plug that. That allows us to address DT / DE in the draft. Deep class... even still, leaves slot receiver, SAM LB, and RB2 as sizable questions.

I am concerned we regress next year.... we are playing a #1 schedule and we are bleeding across the board.

The only real bright-side is a returning Fred at C. That is huge and can't be overstated. Offense will be OK with Fred back, a depth signing, and a solid slot WR. Fred is an upgrade, anyone outside of Beezy or Humphries at slot WR is a downgrade at least in year 1.

Defense is a different story. Irving didn't play much last year, but he was a strong DT. Gregory played a ton, and he is a big loss. Lee / Wilson are questions on if they return. That creates holes / question marks at DT, DE, and LB. Not good.

In my mind - we have a #2, a #3, and 2 #4s to address this.... Can we possibly field an improved team next season?

We need to add one to compensate for the minus but that is a tuff call on whether to add in the draft or FA. I wanna say draft one since we have crawford aka doug free as a leader type plus d law as a leader for sure.

As far as Randy goes he will come back bigger faster and stronger ready to give us another 12-17 games and then back to the timechamber for more technology to be added. He’s getting there he’s just a really good player and we could really use him every game for the next 10 years lol.

We always knew Randy was one mistake away from league suspension. Having DLaw, Taco, Armstrong, and Crawford minimized his loss quite a bit IMO. Besides, according to his agent, he could play some 2019 games. Other words, I'm not sure the FO see this as much of a blow as fans/media.

Offense improves with Frederick and a beefier Williams. Love the oline for next year. Losing Beasley will be a blow, but that's the only loss. I like Austin, but he didn't play much, and we didn't use him much either.

On defense, losing Gregory hurts, but like Beasley, he's the only real loss. Otherwise, it's a bunch of young guys who should all be on the upswing. On defense, we need DE picks to pan out. Taco in particular.

Maybe Marinelli can work some magic and scrounge us up another dline contributor in free agency. Seems like every year he squeezes a bunch of sacks and production out of a league retread. Mayowa, Selvie, Mincey, T McClain. Last year he dug up Woods, who looks like a starter for years to come.

I assume we sign Lawrence. Gregory gone, probably Beasley. We've really lost very little this offseason. Next year a whole lotta contracts come due. That's when we lose players.

Agreed, though to play contrarian, if we don't re-sign D. Law we are in terrible shape on D.

Evidently, the Cowboys D-line will be less than it was last year, with Randy missing from the lineup.

It is and has been a big need for a long time now. Hopefully, one will be found within the offseason.

It's probably fair to say that Lawrence or someone just like him must be charged with being our DE.

I don’t recall Randy Gregory ever being a force...at all.

Was he probably our 2nd best pass rusher? Sure, but that doesn’t make him all that hard to replace.

Agree sucks for the team Gregory can't put down the bong to earn 1 million but my personal "favorite" to pick up the slack will be Armstrong unless they sign a vet.

DE is not a top need

DT is a top need and we need someone who can either command double teams or get solid pressure
I disagree as Tyrone Crawford is a DT we force into DE. He is rather good at DT too

Irving is the bigger loss for me just because he could dominate from anywhere but I wasn’t counting on either playing

Not going to argue whether he will or will not be hard to replace. What he offered, beyond sacks, was consistent QB pressure.
