Witten coming back

Oh yippee. I look forward to another year of an immobile TE for purely nostalgia reasons.

Apparently, some fans think Witten is doing things on the field that others can't.

They get caught up in his legacy and not the present day reality. It reminds me a lot of when Cal Ripken was playing out his final couple of seasons batting .230-.250 and some Oriole fans were bizarrely still saying "one more year!"

Two things can be equally true:

1) Witten's a franchise legend; one of the best to play the game at his position ever.

2) He's clearly declining athletically; he provides zero catch radius; he's no longer a dynamic receiver; his blocking is over-rated (anybody remember his complete whiff in pass-pro early in the Packer game?)

Folks shouldn't be offended; time waits for no man. Peyton Manning is a football legend but was a complete shell of himself his last season in Denver.

We don't have his replacement on the roster, so this is good, he continues to perform above average and always is healthy, that's a positive...knowing he's a year or 2 away from retirement we want to seriously look at finding a qualified replacement...

Not sure how I feel about this.

Love Witten, to death. But man, I'd love to get younger and more athletic at the position. Whatever

I love your gf, smoking....but witten is a warrior. How many TE do we need to waste a draft pick on? Escobar?

LOL!! Let´s put an athletic TE so he can´t run block our All Star running back!! Great job!! This offense is nothing without Witten...

As much as it pains me to say it...only in a part time role. This team needs to find his replacement and a guy who can stretch the field. Maybe he is limited to passing downs and third down packages next year.

I'm glad he's coming back, but I feel it may be time for him to not be the #1 TE. As many others have mentioned, we need to get faster and more athletic at the position than he is at this current state.

Witten is a big part of the winning.

In many ways...

This is now "unfinished business" part 7 for him.

He ain't leaving until he gets it!

The Cowboys FO loves everything about Witten but, Stephen is the hatchet man who had to force the issue with
DeMarcus Ware and this year he will have to pull the trigger on Romo and Witten most likely.

It's OK to acknowledge he's not a huge factor anymore. It doesn't change the fact he's a HOF'er and an all time great TE.
Only hit dogs holler.. If you're not slandering Witt, then my post isn't directed toward you. Just saying, I'm not interested in debating it.

Not the same thing.

You don't take old reliable away from newbie Dak.

You just don't!

Every dog has his day in the sun. Romo and Witten are in the twilight of their careers and
I suspect the Cowboys are going to discuss moving on. At some point, Witten will have
stayed 1 year too long. Alas, I will miss them both greatly but, I was heartsick when
Staubach retired and when the Cowboys moved on from the Triplets. Father time keeps marching on.

You really want to pull the vet out of this newbie offensive crew?

BIG mistake!

He's my favorite player, but I hope he can keep it up. I have no idea how he gets open, and he runs like his feet hurt.

He is always open because no defensive back or linebacker can run that slow. They outrun him on his routes while trying to cover him. His slowness surprises his defenders. And I love him for that. :D:eek:

People say we need speed and I agree with that, but sometimes the turtle does beat the hare. :p

He's due to make $12mill next year and has one year left on his deal. Of course he's coming back. He'd be a fool not to.

It never fails. The pitchforks always come out calling for a great player to be let go because of some fallacy fans fall for. Same thing happened with Ware and they're still trying to find his replacement.

Witten's experience and skills are top notch and were evident on multiple occations throughout the year but he isn't fast so he needs to go. Typical nonsense.

He's invaluable with a QB as young as Dak who for the moment knows he can find Witten in a pinch and he'll almost always be open.

When Witten's replacement is found and can actually beat him out for the position then we'll talk until then put this nonsense to rest. There are more pressing needs on his team than the HoF tight end.

Geez.
