Witten said he was scared to death when soon-to-be-enshrined Hall of Fame coach caught him eating a hot dog at halftime of a 2006 preseason game.

Speaking at an Independence Bowl event in Shreveport, La. Wednesday, Witten recalled the game against the Saints there when he thought his career might be much shorter.

“It was raining, and I had played most of the first half, catching a touchdown pass, and we were beating the Saints pretty good,” Witten said, via Jimmy Watson of the Shreveport Times. “I figured I was finished at halftime, because starters usually didn’t play that much in preseason games. I walked under the stadium and saw the most beautiful hot dog you’ve ever seen. I dressed it all up with mustard, and ketchup and relish — then I was in mid-bite when coach Parcells walked in.

Barry Switzer would have joined him in a hotdog!

I know folks here don't like Parcells -- but Witten is a prime example of a guy who really took his lessons to heart. I expect he will ask BP to induct him into the Hall of Fame.

I really doubt that. And the reason is because Parcells came out and said the he will go into the HOF as a Giant. I cannot imagine a Cowboy player asking a Giant Coach HOF'er to inducet him in to the Hall of Fame....it just seem wrong!

A) You don't go into the hall as anything.
B) Troy had Norv introduce him.

Then why did Parcells say that he is going in as a Giant instead of a Cowboy because he was longer with the Giants?

You don't go into the HoF as a member of a particular team. Look at the HoF Web Site. http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/member.aspx?playerId=309 - I clearly see the Cowboy logo represented.

But although the NFL doesn’t make players or coaches distinguish what team they are associated with for the Hall of Fame the way baseball does, Parcells makes it clear.

“I’m going in as a Giant,” Parcells said. “That was a place I spent 10 full years, two as an assistant and eight as a head coach. I certainly didn’t spend more than four years anywhere else. I think, identification-wise, I’m more with the Giants than any other franchise, just because of longevity.”

At least Witten ate the hot dog at halftime and not on the sidelines while the game was in progress like Barry Switzer and Mark Sanchez.

I don't see what is wrong with this. Nor do I see it as a slight to Dallas.

He came up the ranks as a Giant and won both his superbowls there. It was his work with the Giants that provided much of the basis for this honor. I expect someone associated with the Giants will induct him as well.

I doubt any of the Cowboys sees this as a slight at all.
