Witten needs to retire

The guy had a horrible year where he only avg 35 yards a game and a liitle over 8 yards a catch. We need more production and speed out of that position, Witten could never do what Ertz did last night. Now I know one poster here who thinks its irrational for us fans to want to replace Wittens production, because players run up to him after a game and show him respect.lol At this point in his career, Dallas needs to move on or Witten needs to retire.

Witten could do that about 7-8 years ago....but yes, he's done and has been done. Thanks for the years Witten but we need to get younger in that position.

There are some who point to his stats and say he's still an upper echelon TE. But watch those two TEs last night, especially Ertz, and try to tell me again that Witten is in that class.

He doesn't need to retire but they need to find another playmaking TE that can stress defenses like Ertz does.

Should Beasley retire too? He's slower, but defenses were clogging the middle of the field because Dak can't attack the sidelines. We don't even run route that way unless it is a go route.

When Dak can be consistent attacking the sideline 10-20 yards down field is when this offense is going to shine.

Hey I'm no Dak believer but Dak has nothing to do with Witten being 35 years old (36 all of next season)....it's a young man's game and Witten is not a QB, place kicker, punter or long snapper. He plays at a position that values athleticism. And no Beasley doesn't need to retire because he's not in his mid 30s.

Loyalty will rear its head again............ they will let Witten continue as long as Witten wants to play.

And we will probably pay him nearly $7MM this year to do it. Great use of cap space.

I think he still could play a huge role for us but he doesn't need to be the featured guy anymore.

Also, it would help us later on in the season having a fresher Witten.

But Dallas will be stupid i'm sure and depend completely on him.

Written doesn’t need to retire.

He is still a team leader and can be a teacher. He also still has reliable hands though not much else.

What he needs to do is take less money and take an Antonio Gates role.

Exactly.

I agree with this.

However only if someone on the team can beat him out and prove they are worthy of it.

I don't need someone to take on more snaps and plays but is not worthy or good enough to have earned it...in other words don't force it.

Get what you're saying but I would prefer him not on the team at all unless he's an assistant TE coach to help teach. His presence is too big because of who he is and he'll take too many snaps from younger players that need them.

I wish Jason would retire for his own sake. He's been lucky for 15 seasons of avoiding a serious injury. He needs to hang it up before it happens. He's had a Hall of fame career. Retire and walk away while he still can.

You may need to change your username.

Not saying Witten is great anymore but I don’t think the difference in production between Ertz and Witten would have made the difference. Ertz only averaged 50 yards per game in an offense that loves to throw to the TEs.

no way. His production would be better if the QB was better.

Also the guy is a good blocker. Does more than just catch passes.

Pay cut I would agree with

Get a life and show valid respect to a totally class player...since day one.

If and when Jason doesn't contribute strongly to the offense...don't worry, he'll retire himself.

Use someone ELSE for a personal whipping boy.

He's well past his prime, his blocking has gotten worse, and he is good for 1-2 penalties a game. The only issue is, who will replace him? When you burn a second round pick on a guy like Gavin Escobar, you don't really create a lot of competition. There's no way a guy like James Hanna or Rico Gathers will push him out.

Unless they hit a home run on a middling draft pick this year, expect to see him around for a while. Maybe they can pick up Fumagalli from Wisconsin.

He needs to be drop to #2 TE in the depth chart but again this is not a team that's about competition is about entitlement.
I agree
As soon as we get a 1 that’s better than him
Hopefully Rico is that guy or we don’t have that guy
