Witten's pace for 200 catches

Through 36 career games, Jason Witten has 145 career catches. If he continues at his pace of last season and this season, he should get his 200th catch in his 47th game (the final game of this season). That would tie him for the third-fastest tight end to 200 catches. Kellen Winslow did it in 39 games, and Jeremy Shockey did it in 43. Mike Ditka and Keith Jackson also did it in 47.

And for those who are wondering, Antonio Gates has 128 catches in 34 games.

If Witten does get to 200 catches this season, he'll be the youngest tight end to do it (at 23 years old). Winslow did it at age 24, and Shockey did it at 25. Gates already is 25.

Seriously. Especially since he is the last to resign out of Gates/Heap/Shockey, his price is going to be high. Shockey's deal averages $6 million per year!

I dont think resigning Witten will be an issue. Witten knows what side his bread is buttered on. Plus when you break down Shockeys contract, not all 30 mill is guarenteed.

This is probably a non issue. And besides, having an awesome TE signed for 6-7 years isn't all that bad. If we have to take a hit, I would for Witten. Hes earned it.
