In my opinion, Pascal was so way over the top that his performance was ridiculously comical. For me, it hurt seeing him in that light because I have a lot of respect for his work in his The Mandalorian television series.

I'm assuming the role called for the over the top hammy style, just like the Mando calls for an almost emotionless monotone style.

Oh, I am sure the role demanded Pascal play it that way. I should amend what I said earlier by saying his ridiculously comical performance was a failure of screenwriting and direction as well.

The movie struggled with being a super hero action movie vs a campy super hero movie. The ending was horrible.
For me, the film's final couple of minutes seemed like Jenkins was grateful to wrap up the movie. My hope is if there is a third movie and she directs the next sequel, Jenkins will reflect on both her movies and realize the quality of the first one greatly supersedes the second one.

Yeah, they tried to do Thor: Ragnarok and failed miserably.
That movie still hurts my soul. Forget Thor, Loki and The Hulk for a sec. Thor: Ragnarok had Hela, Surtur, The Grandmaster AND The Valkyrie.

I was certain it would be the best of the trilogy and a great MCU chapter. People will disagree and I respect the disagreement but I place T:R third in the trilogy in my book.

I will be forever grateful Cate Blanchett was cast as Hela. She was perfect and made the movie a lot better for me personally.

It was a fun watch for me but that was about it. Didn't hate it or love it. Like some of you have mentioned already, I did have some issues with the plot but I guess this is Hollywood, after all. I thought that "final boss" scene was very anticlimactic.

I really expected quite a bit more myself. Disappointed for sure. I think they failed at the overplayed "1980's" stuff and couldn't find the groove. As others have said, Thor Ragnarok just did the premise so much better. And yikes at the ending and some of the CGI. I really enjoyed the first one. I think WW3 will be an improvement.

Need other members' opinion after watching the movie. Does anyone think Steve Trevor should have been brought back? My opinion? No. I think the movie's course was altered too much because of the character's reintroduction.

East, i thought Wonder Woman 84... was a Mess. !
After all these years in awaiting for the sequel, i was vastly disappointed in it overall .

- the plot and storyline was so murky and grew ever disinteresting and confusing as the movie went on ,..and for the 2nd straight movie, the choice of
the main villain was horrible.. per Maxwell Lord, it got to a point where i wished the end of the movie were done and mercifully finished.
- The kicker of the trailer gave the impression that it was gonna be the villain Cheetah (aka Barbara Minerva) as WW's main foe .
But Nooope ! Director Patty Jenkins decided to give us an overacting Richard Dawson type games showman and speaking of Cheetah which, the only saved her and her furry appearance until the final 10 minutes of the move.

- Jenkins tried to override the clumsy confusing plot ,..poor character developing and looong drawn out dialogue that meant very little interest, with some
moments of CGI special effects fighting particularly in the opening moments,.. and the big Army miltary chase and fight scenes.

- the Golden Armor scene was so farce and meant to be added flash- and i didn't get how she suddenly gained the ability to Fly ..

- and to go back to our question with Steve Trevor, ..WTH ??!! Princess Dina just happens to be imagining that she is seeing her old boyfriend Steve
at a party and then it's on again ? ..and he disappears by her just walking away from him past a brick wall ?
i thought the whole Trevor appearance and role was terrible deal to bring back Trevor instead of just giving Prncess Diana a new introduced lover for the 84 present and future.

- Since it's named from the 84' time era, wouldn't be a greater idea for Jenkins to re-introduce some of the more notable 80's music, sights, and culture such as break dancing, Culture Club, Halle & Oates, Blockbuster Video, and yes, Michael Jackson's Thriller !

- From a scale of 1 to 10 .. i'd give Wonder Woman 84' ..a 6.0
and that's only because of the CGI special effects fighting and Gal Gadot is so freakin' Gorgeous !!.... Woof ! Woof!

Well, Jenkins did squeeze in a tiny scene with break dancing. :muttley: I agree with your assessment for Diana/Steve. It was very contrived.

Jenkins wanted Pascal's character be ultimately redeemable. He had a bad childhood, combined with bad karma, molded him into a desperate schemer, who would stop at nothing to get everything he could ever dream, INCLUDING destroying everyone's lives on earth.

BUT

He had a kid. Deep down he loved his kid. In the end, he stopped short of throwing the entire world into chaos because he wanted to be a good dad. Lame. Write the kid out of the story. Allow the character's background to reflect vile, malevolent intent. Presto! Believable bad guy.

Similarly, separate Wiig from her comedic talents and highlight her dramatic skill. Craft sequences leading to Lord granting Minerva her wish to prey on others like they preyed on her. Bam! Co-bad guy joining forces against the superhero. And there would be little room to re-introduce Trevor.

I was okay with Jenkins allowing Steve to give her the concept of flying. It is simplified but Wonder Woman figured it out on the fly (pun intended). Diana is the half-child of Zeus. Flying is wonderous to those who cannot fly. Wonder is it her name. Wonder Woman does things that leave you in awe and wonder.
Methinks Warner Bros knew the sequel was not as strong as the original. Its debut had been delayed. The studio wanted some return on their investment. Streaming was getting tested with first run mainstream films. WW84 was the initial BIG test run for them. Just a guess on my part though.

I did not like the movie. I thought the movie was too long, CGI not very good and the ending was a let down. 5/10.

Seriously. The CGI was awful. I couldn’t get past how bad the lasso looked in the mall scene early in the movie.

I think Gal Gadot’s face is beautiful but she’s too skinny, and I’m not one of these guys that like overweight, cellulite thighs “thick” girls. When you’re that tall and that thin it tends to look gawky IMO.

lol...forget it East,
Still to this day, nobody even seems to bring
up Thor Dark World among critics and fans
While it's totally opposite when
Hearing and reading the still raves about thor ragnorak.
Maybe it's the small colorful comedic moments and Guardian of Galaxy format added to ragnorak that you didn't like?

A few folks talk about Thor: The Dark World but they and I are solidly in the minority.

Let me think on it. I will post a list of dislikes.

Just got around to watching this last night. What a shocking disappointment. Goofy story, terrible pacing and editing, and the special effects were an embarrassment. It's plain to see why this thing was realeased to HBO Max in an attempt to salvage something out of it.

As much as I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the first film, I was every big as let down and disappointed by this one. I can't believe the same person directed both because they feel nothing alike whatsoever. They took all of the success and good will for the first film and flushed it down the toilet with this one. At this point, I have doubts that there will be a third one.

+1
this sequel tells me that director Patty Jenkins is limited and she totally ran out of ideas and expanded imagination
If the studios give the green light for a 3rd WW film, it's very likely gonna be just the same or worse than this one.

I am not ready to give up on Patty Jenkins yet. I have this uneasy feeling the studio had too much influence over the screenplay simply to reintroduce the Steve Trevor romance angle and capitalize on Chris Pine's star appeal, which failed.

Finally stopped long enough to think on it. My top ten *David Letterman drum roll* :

1. Thor's conversation with Surtur while spinning slowing on a chain. Did not find it amusing. At all.
2. Thor's fight with Surtur was very anticlimatic.
3. Ditto Odin's death scene on a Norway (Norway???) cliff. Thought Anthony Hopkins' exit could have been conceived way better.
4. The entire Planet Hulk storyline as an underlying plot
5. The Grandmaster, the most diabolical Elder of the Universe in my opinion, played as classic Jeff Goldblum satire style (nauseating) which is a completely stark contrast from the augmented Sakaaran story-connected Red King and Warlord antagonists
6. Tessa Thompson did not sell me on The Valkyrie's alcoholism (seemed strained)
7. Practically all Korg dialogue
8. The non-fight between Surtur and The Hulk (Banner would lose easily but still...)
9. A sizable number of joke delivery through out the movie that O found were off-timed, which two volumes of Guardians of The Galaxy has done extremely well
10. Not necessarily a Taika Waititi acting or directorial fan. He does surprise me occasionally but not with Thor: Ragnarok

EDIT

Must add that I recognize my consideration of Thor: Ragnarok is my own and likely shared in some ways by the minority of the film's audience. The movie was very well received by the majority of the audience. My opinion differs.

Just wanted to add my personal sentiment is not how I judge the movie's acknowledgement by the film watching community. While I did give the movie a 5.5 out of 10 grade back in November 2017, I do not feel it was poor, bad or even an example of 'the worst movie ever made'.

Rest assured. I understand why the movie was much more entertaining to most movie-goers than for me. Likewise, I comprehend why the movie receives a much higher grade from most movie fans than me also.

My level of appreciation for T: R is entirely a Me Thing and does not seek to persuade anyone from thinking differently about the film in any way, shape or fashion. Thought about what I posted earlier and it dawned on me other readers might think I was projecting onto their summation. I want to avoid that conclusion after a past experience of another member informing me Man of Steel was 'the worst movie ever made'.

My view of T: R is a difference in opinion. It is not a dismissal of what makes it a movie that is a worthwhile watch for any movie-goer.
