Dang, I wish I could have caught the guy that broke into my car and stole my stereo.

I have never had my stuff stolen like that before, so I have a new perspective on this type of stuff. Especially when you get your stuff stolen and you have to pay money (deductible).

I got the car back today and there seems to be broken glass inside the door. Will be interesting to see what the collision center says about it Monday.

So that would be public record if arrested - were charges filed? That is so cool you busted the perp. That is all public info - I want to see the police report of a Dallas barefoot fan nailing the burglar!!!!!! good work

As a dispatcher, I can't emphasize enough how much people who are willing to actually stay on the phone and give us good descriptions are appreciated. It's crazy how often people see something fishy and just duck behind a window and call us, give us a poor description, and don't want to be seen so they never look again.

Plus, cops love calls like that. Catching people doing something in progress is the "fun police work" that I always hear about. :)

Oh and on getting the 911 tape? I'm not sure I've ever had anyone actually ask me that question. We have a records department where you can buy a copy of any report, but I'm not sure if you can buy audio records. Probably depends on the department.

Thanks for chiming in. I couldn't remember who was the 911 operator here.

I have 3 pictures I took of the "crime scene" but my daughter sent them to me in an e-mail and I am utterly stupid about graphics. WG tried to talk me through getting them on my photobucket site so I could post them, but I gave up. The only one worth posting would be the window he went in. You can see the damaged blinds and his finger prints on the window frame.
