Woodson is no Dorsett

^^ Any proof or are we taking some poster's word for that?

The only numbers that have not been worn since the players retired (at least not during the regular season) are: 74 (Lilly), 12 (Staubach), & 8 (Aikman).

They usually assign #74 to someone in camp because there are a limited amount of linemen numbers to go around but whoever wears it in camp changes it prior to the start of the season if they are still on the roster.

20, 22, 33, 88, 54, etc. have all been worn by a number of players after whatever great player wore them because there aren't enough to go around at those positions.

The Cowboys have never officially retired any number but those 3 (74, 12, & 8) are not given out.

Frankly, Woodson was a great player but not an elite one (like Lilly or Staubach) and numbers in the 20s have to be utilized because of the number of players at those positions.

I think you can add #22 to this list. Thanks for the post, these are the same #'s I thought of also right as soon as I started reading this thread. I personally would include 33 for TD, as he is one of my all time favorite Cowboys players. I think the equipment manager, Mike McCoy [is that right] is in charge of jersey no's. And he will not give out any of those, unless for camp reasons, he has to.

You could make the case that #54 should be yanked off the market, in honor of two phenomenal players.

Could you imagine the pressure a young QB would have to endure if the Cowboys allowed him to wear the #12
