These two comments by Archer on ESPN Dallas says a ton about what kind of coach Garrett is and the culture that Garrett has brought to the Cowboys. It is easy to see why he having success now. Always working and trying to get better.

Same as it ever was: The Pro Bowl is hardly about football. It’s about the game’s best players hanging out together and having fun.

At Thursday’s practice at Luke Air Force Base, Jason Garrett’s workout looked a lot like a regular-season practice, minus the pads and run in just about 60 minutes. Darren Woodson joked it was harder than any Pro Bowl practice he remembered when he was in the all-star game.

The Baltimore Ravens staff is running Team Carter, and their session was much different.

“I really believe these guys like to play football,” Garrett said. “They want to play football at a high level. They want to get themselves ready to play a game, understand what we’re trying to do on offense, defense and in the kicking game. I don’t think we want to grind these guys into the ground. We know that it’s the Pro Bowl but hopefully we create a good atmosphere and environment for them to get some stuff done, but have some fun doing it.”

A team that stays together: I’m not a big chemistry guy. I believe chemistry is made by winning. But during the off time the Cowboys always seemed together -- and not just the seven players in attendance.

The players, coaches, equipment staff, athletic training staff and video staff, as well as their wives and girlfriends, were seemingly joined at the hip, especially at night by the fire pit outside at the Arizona Biltmore. Garrett often talks about the family atmosphere that he has tried to build, and that was clearly evident earlier in the week.

For those of you old enough, this is a far cry from the days when Barry Switzer barely even practiced the pro bowl players he was coaching and was caught during the game eating a hot dog sitting on the bench.

That switzer pro bowl team got embarrassed that year. I bet Garrett's team doesn't this weekend.

I'm confused as to why the Pro-Bowl is in Arizona then back to Hawaii after.

Garrett is a great leader of men. His coaching skills finally caught up with his leadership.

Improved talent on the roster and overall better healthy helped also. Bright future for America's Team once again.

A better call by the refs on both, one has two rings one may make it to the NFC Championship game! Switzer catches alot of grief but he does have a big shiny ring!

That embarrassment also cost us a chance to sign LB Chris Spielman (sp?) that off-season, also. Chris said he could never play for a guy like that.

Now all he needs to master is his game management skills and he'll have no real weaknesses as a coach IMO

I personally thought this year his game management was a big reason why we were so successful. He had a true pulse on the game at all times. When to go for it on 4th, Never letting the team get to high or low when we were up or down, the "killer instinct" he preaches really showed this year..

The thing I noticed was the lack of drive killing penalties, there were some but each year the team got better at it. In years past they would be in situations to put a game away and then boom, 10 yard holding, or on 3rd and short a false start. I know there were few this year but not many stick out. If anything I think many of the penalties this year were on the defensive side of the ball where there is the least talent on the team.

Yea, he was much better this year...and I think that mostly comes from having less responsibility with the offense. Even if he wasn't calling plays last year, he was still running it. I think he gave up a bit of control this year, and it certainly helped him as a HC.

I think you kind of answered the question there with that last sentence. The lack of penalties is more from having better players than anything.
