Did he make a football move? You decide.

When he rolled on the ground and then got back up to try and run, I say that was a football move, but that is debatable.

You can throw the false start on #66 that allowed Pitts to burn about 5 mins a bad call also. And for the refs to call nothing made it even worse. It should have been a false start or offsides. Something has to be called.

This was one of the worst officiated years in the NFL I can ever remember. Bad call after bad call after non-bad call after non-bad call all year long.

...this head ref and his crew should be demoted from the playoffs next year. He single handedly caused the needless deaths of hundreds of trees due to the extra newsprint used to discuss his ridiculous calls.

Has anyone ever witnessed another "tuck rule" that they made up in the raider/NE game?

That was the absolute correct call according to the rules. Maybe if a few people read and understood the rule book, you know, actually understood what's happening in the game they're fans of, these things would be seen in the correct light.

The Steeler safety had to maintain possession of the ball after hitting the ground, the same way that we've seen tons of other calls go this year. His right knee was still on the ground while his left knee knocked the ball out, hence he was still on the ground and did not maintain possession....incompletion.

It was a simple call and they made it correctly.

yeah but that was the third time his knee had hit the ground AFTER he already had possession. He was UP before the ball popped out, his knees came off the turf, which caused the fumble.
Sequence, 1) Catch, 2) body and both knees hits the ground, 3) Rolls over, another knee hits the ground 4) Body pops up 5) ball pops out 6) fumble recovery

It was a bad call, ACCORDING to the rules
AND according to common sense.

It became mostly a moot point since Indy lost anyway. But I figured that Indy would win after the horrible call and then it definitely would've been worse than the "tuck" rule call that changed who went to the SB.

I think the bigger indictment is the instant replay system in the NFL. Its embarrassing to football. They overturn more good field calls and hurt the momentum of a game more often than it helps get things correct. The system isn't working and the officials use it as a crutch and excuse. Its got to be changed or lost.

Plus, 4) Body pops up on your list never occurred prior to the ball coming out. That makes 6) moot.

The "tuck" call was correct also. The rules are the rules and in both cases the officials applied them correctly.

Replay is the single best thing to have happened to the NFL in the last 30 years. I've only seen two calls since its inception that I felt were wrongly overturned but probably over fifty (and that just in the games I've watched) that were overturned correctly and stopped an injustice from happening.

the problem is that they let lawyers instead of football players write the rules. You either have possession or you don't. He had possession and rolled on the ground. THEN he got up and his knee knocked the ball loose. It was an INT followed by a FUMBLE. ANYONE who claims otherwise is a moron. If the rule is screwed up so that is NOT it claims then the rule is stupid and must be changed. They are trying to make something so simple way too complicated.

The correct sequence is 1) catch, 2) right knee hits ground, 3) body hits ground, 4) left knee hits ground, 5) rolls over onto right knee, 6) left knee knocks ball out.

So the ball came out before he stopped rolling and before he stood up. That makes it an incomplete pass.

And anyone who can't read and comprehend a simple explanation of rules is an illiterate ignoramus. He never got up before losing possession....incompletion.

it's obvious the nfl wanted manning to advance. ratings.
that doesn't make any sense, the Steelers are WAY more popular than Manning and Indy.

That instant replay reversal was the absolute worst, most critical call in NFL history, even moreso if the Colts come back to win.

Caught the ball, knees hit the ground 3X, takes two steps, and fumbles. How is it possible that it was an incomplete pass? If it had been a WR trying to catch the ball along the sidelines, it would've obviously been ruled a catch.
That is inexcusable.

Once again instant replay overturns the correct call on the field. Replay has to go.

It was a horrible call... but it pales in comparison to the "no catch" call in the 1979 AFC Championship game when Mike Renfro caught a game changing TD against the Steelers that was ruled no catch...

That call helped usher in the replay booth as we know it...

I can't imagine how anyone with at least one working eyeball and a rudimentary IQ at least above the level of pond scum could not see that was an INT.

Exactly. If I was a Steeler fan, I would have had a heart attack. Replay just doesn't work in the NFL. I still can't believe that call!

One of the worse calls that I have ever seen. INT all the way and if it happened against us I would have went nuts. They also botched the NON false start call against Pitt on 4th and inches and the AWFUL pass interference penalty they never called in the 1st half that basically would have killed the Colts chances. I think the score was 14-0 or 14-3 and Jackson interfered big time with the Pitt WR (Randle El I think).

...the NFL's recent statement on the call this goes to show that posts should be tempered with a grain of restraint.

I was wrong abotu the play, too. It's up to the referee's judgement to determine when the process of making the catch ends, and when a receiver catches a pass while going to the ground and rolls over once, that's usually considered part of the "process." I guess in this case, the "process" ended before he finished rolling, which makes it even more of a gray area.

The NFL has now officially declared that the official made the wrong call. Wonder what would have happened if the Colts had won the game?
