I'm sure this is going to get buried in the avalanche of threads coming down the mountain tonight, but I had to write it.

Today was a terrible day.

I am a HUGE Cowboys fan -- let's get that out of the way now. But right now, the loss we just endured is secondary on my mind. Maybe I'm just numb I don't know.

But here's why.

When I was a freshman in college 9 years ago, I fell asleep at the wheel of my car driving late at night. My car hit a guardrail and spun into a pole. When I came I turned around to find my backseat smashed up into the back of the front seat, the key in the ignition wouldn't turn off, and my driver's side door was the only one that would open. Needless to say, it was totaled. My only injury was a small scratch on my forehead.

About a month ago, my car (the one I got after the totaled one and 500 miles short of 200k) broke down. So I've been looking for a car since then. Yesterday I found what I was looking for.

And I made a great deal on it. I was pumped.

I drove it home from DFW last night, admired it today, and got ready for the Cowboys game.

At 3:00 this afternoon I was taking my new ride over to my friends' house for the Cowboys watching party, in my Romo throwback. I was sitting at a stop light in the far right lane. The light turned green, and I noticed the car in the turn lane going into the intersection. I followed him out there. As I was halfway through the westbound lanes, I heard the screeching of brakes, looked to my left, and saw a westbound minivan careening through the intersection. In an split second it clipped the front of the guy in the turning lane, deflected off of him and T-boned me in the back drivers' side door.

My side curtain airbags in my new car deployed, and those, coupled with the fact that the brunt of the impact was a couple of feet behind me in the back seat, saved my life. I have some mild tightness and what feels like a minor burn from air bag chemicals on my neck, but I don't think there's a scratch on me.

I made it to the game 4 minutes into the first quarter. And yes, our beloved Cowboys lost. But no less than 5 minutes after Romo threw the interception in the end zone, my focus shifted to what really mattered. I was still alive and I was uninjured.

I know it's tough for all of us right now. But each of you should be thankful that in the end, this is a game, this is entertainment, and you're alive.

Life is good. We'll cheer them on again next year.

It definitely puts things in perspective.... and it is also definitely frustrating to only have that car for 20 hours, before it's gone. However, it's just a car.

Glad to hear you are alright and yes, in the end, it is just a car, and just a game. It's all about perspectives.

Wish you luck with getting another ride.

I totalled my BMW couple of month ago, I loved that car, but that's life.

Glad you're OK. Hope you get checked out medically to make sure nothing is wrong. Sometimes you think that things are fine physically only to find out that you've injured something down the road. I had an auto accident break a bone in my foot but I didn't find out until later because I thought it was just a bruise.

Always remember that "things can almost always be worse".

It is really tough to be patient.

Wow, glad you made it out.

I like this thread. Here's my story from today. I'm down, no doubt, as are my two oldest boys (11 and 9). But today was a great day for us. Before you lynch me, let me explain.

My youngest son is 5 and has Down syndrome. He's a great little guy and has a lot of personality. The most frustrating thing for him is that his speech is very poor though his understanding is very high.

He does a lot of sign language and tries to speak a lot, it's just been tough to understand him for the most part. The past few months he's made incredible strides in his speaking and he's really enjoying people starting to understand what he's saying, even if it's only some of the time.

Well this morning on the way to church he starts singing (he's never sung before) the song my wife and I sing to him at bedtime, and he gets through the whole thing and it was pretty clear throughout. The entire car erupts in applause and laughter and J has a grin from ear to ear. He sang it several more times throughout the day to wild cheering and high fives.

Luckily for him he has no interest yet in football or the Cowboys, so he's sleeping happily with his new found skill. I'm down, but even the major choke I just witnessed on FOX can't really dampen my excitement today.

It's a sport fellas, we've had a helluva run this year, horrific ending, but we'll be back. I guarantee it.

That's a great story.... It gets hard to keep things in perspective when you've focused on football for so much of 6-7 months. But things like this help bring the perspective back.
