We were the worst defense in the league (ypg) last year. Something has to got to give. I'm stunned so many of you are clamoring for the status quo on defense.

This is the year to retool the defensive line.

Spencer is gone
Hatcher is gone
Ratliff is gone
Ware should be gone

Start over.

Next year we can address the linebacker situation if necessary, and while we're somewhat committed in the secondary, we can address both if the need arises. especially if Sean Lee turns out to be what we want him to be.

But this old aging defensive line? I gave it a shot last year, and I was wrong. Let's not be wrong again and double down on the same mistake twice.

Good luck with your 108 million dollar Quarterback. Cowboys are going to need it.

that means we have to replace 4 players on the DL in one of season, with no cap, so thus essentially hitting on every draft pick and them being DL men as well. kind of tough to do. you have to take a more practical approach. keep what makes sense like ware or perhaps a reasonable offer to hatcher. if not hatcher, then melton perhaps, and then draft a DL man. similar approach next year to LB spot. (I think all the stuff with ware is posturing, each side has a ace in the hole, with ware not willing to take a cut and cowboys not having to release him until FA hot period is over).

Not at all as difficult as you make it out to be. We have much more cap space going forward than you think. First year base salary doesn't need to be all that much.

New blood, hopefully improved health, easier schedule.

This defense will be better next year, just watch.
