Automatica-Gramatica... if only he took out who's his face's legs in that game against Seattle in 2006, just roll under him... and Romo makes the endzone.

Jose Cortez, but followed VERY closely by Shankramatica (can't throw a block? Just once?)

I don't hate on kickers. But my favorite one ever was Chris Boniol, only because he was such a beast on special teams coverage. That guy would knock your head off, completely. He was the Bill Bates of kickers.

This thread is dedicated to Hostile BTW.

I've been watching a bunch of Cowboys games from the 70s recently and Efren Herrera may have been the worst kicker I have ever seen.

Have we ever had anybody worse?

My kids who live in Mexico say Raphael Septien...

What?!?!!?!?!?! (I thought it was funny...tough room)

All Pro as a rookie and then it all went downhill from that point on.

I wish festering boils on all of them not currently on the roster, and that act of tolerance on my part feels very forced.

It's sad that Septien is the longest tenured kicker in our history. Our punters tend to last longer than our kickers. In fact, only 2 kickers have played more than 5 years for us...

Rafael Septien: 1978-86 9 seasons 137 games
Mike Clark: 1968-73 6 seasons 58 games
Billy Cundiff: 2002-05 4 seasons 53 games
Toni Fritsch: 1971-75 4 seasons 43 games
Effren Herrera: 1974-77 4 seasons 39 games
Chis Boniol: 1994-96 3 seasons 48 games
Richie Cunningham: 1997-99 3 seasons 44 games
Danny Villanueva: 1965-67 3 seasons 42 games
Roger Ruzek: 1987-89 3 seasons 35 games
Nick Folk: 2007-2008 2 seasons 32 games - so far...
Ken Willis: 1990-91 2 seasons 32 games
Sam Baker: 1962-63 2 seasons 28 games
Tim Seder: 2000-01 2 seasons 23 games
Eddie Murray: 1993, 1999 2 seasons 18 games
Lin Elliott: 1992-93 2 seasons 18 games
Luis Zendejas: 1987, 1989 2 seasons 11 games
Dick Van Raaphorst: 1964 1 season 14 games
Allen Green: 1961 1 season 14 games
Fred Cone: 1960 1 season 12 games
Mike Vanderjagt: 2006 1 season 10 games
Jon Hilbert: 2001 1 season 8 games
Jose Cortez: 2005 1 season 7 games

(I only included kickers who had at least 10 FG attempts)

I don't even remember Jon Hilbert but then 2001 was a dark time in our team's history and things from the Campo era are quite fuzzy in my memory.

It is also interesting to note that Septien has EXACTLY twice as many made FGs as the next highest guy (Boniol) 162 - 81. Statistically, Boniol was our best kicker.

Well since most of them have only been around for a couple of years you haven't had to put up with them for too long. :D

I am with you. If I ran a team I would never kick except to kickoff and I could use a real player to do that. I like the old days when guys like Lou Groza, Lou Michaels and George Blanda were players who also kicked.

Mike Vanderjerk was the worst kicker this franchise has had. Herrera was bad, but Vanderjagt was the top dog in this category, Just ask Bill Parcells.

We would have never had Nick Folk if not for the drunk headcase Vandy !

Lin Elliott was pretty bad. In an era (early 90s) when most good kickers made about 75% of their FGs or higher he hit on only 66.7% of his attempts.

By comparison, Vanderjerk hit 72.2%.

The whole problem with that is, his kicks he missed were almost always with the game on the line, so stats in this case mean nothing as far as I'm concerned.

"Clutch kicker" is the word I'm looking for, either of those two were remotely close to be clutch !:blind:

Oh don't get me wrong, I think Vanderjerk was horrible, I just think people tend to give Elliott a pass when he doesn't deserve one.

The expectations for Vandy were pretty high and he totally let us down. The only one I can compare him to is Dick Van Raaphorst who we drafted in 1964. He was supposed to be all-world in college and so we let Sam Baker go because we felt confident in the rookie. Unfortunately he missed one clutch kick after another. IMO he was the worst kicker we ever had because he cost us so many games that year when we should have been contending for a playoff spot. It also hurt because we let a good kicker go for him.

Vanderjerk didn't even last a full season while we were stuck with Raaphorst all year in '64.
