Worst Performance by a Team Ever

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...lity-after-falling-to-0-8-against-the-spread/

So basically this means that this is the worst performance by a team in the history of the universe. Way to go guys. Well done.
There’s nothing as bad as the late 70s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They lost 26 straight. They are the “gold standard” of bad. We ain’t there yet.

The great John McKay, the surly but funny head coach of Tampa Bay in that 26 game losing streak has some of the funniest quotes in sports history:
  • A post game reporter asked McKay how he felt about his team's execution -his response - "I'm in favor of it."
  • On Tampa Bay ending its 26-game losing streak: "Three or four plane crashes and we're in the playoffs."
  • "We didn't tackle well today but we made up for it by not blocking."
  • "Emotion is highly overrated in football. My wife Corky is emotional as hell but can't play football worth a damn."

I'm pretty sure that theoretically you could go undefeated win the SB without ever covering the spread.....
Not sure what you are trying to say here but it feels like you are trying to defend a team that is on pace to be the most disappointing team in history. Sure the Patriots could win the superbowl by winning every game by 10 points even though they were favored by 14. That doesn't change the fact that we stink even worse than people expect us to stink.

Perhaps I should change the title from worst performance to most disappointing performance. In essence based on expectations no team has ever come up this short. Think about that one for a moment. Basically it is the worst job ever done by a team.

INJURIES

This is such a disingenuous take.

One of Sabres TV Commentator Harry Neale's most famous quotes from his coaching career came after coaching the Canucks to a loss during the 1981–82 season: “Last season we couldn't win at home. This season we can't win on the road. My failure as a coach is I can't think of any place else to play.”

well I agree the coaches and players are delivering the worst game play and results ever for a cowboy team.
But you cant go by spread results, those are strictly for gambling, and have little to do with game performance or wins or losses.
What the spread results do say, is when they were favored to win they either lost, or won by less than predicted.
If they were predicted to lose by x points, then they lost by more than was predicted.
The loss spreads are usually not that accurate, a 10 point dog, can easily lose by more than 10 points.
Dallas is 14.5 dog, but they could easily lose by 20 or more in this particular game.
That could happen if even dak was still playing.

But overall it does suggest that the cowboys are doing poorly in games VERY consistently.

Mmmmmm pretty sure that when it comes to setting the spread Vegas knows a thing or two about what they are doing.

For those of you crying about injuries don't you think Vegas factors that in? That is the whole point. Even though no one expects us to do anything we blow them away by doing even less. You expect us to suck? Well you have no idea just how badly we can suck. You think we are so bad we will lose by 21? Wrong we will lose by 28. We are experts in coming up short no matter how little you expect. It truly is amazing.

In case you didn't read the article since the merger in 1970 only two other teams have been 0-8 against the spread. the spread makes the game basically a coin flip. There is a less that one percent chance that you will flip tails 8 times in a row. It is almost statistically impossible. It is just another sign that there is something fundamentally wrong with this team. I honestly can't believe that some people still defend them.

This team is always beating the odds when it comes to losing and in some cases beating astronomical odds. I guess we just keep chalking it up to some good old bad luck.

Cue the excuse train.
Yes injuries are an excuse. When you lose half your offense, that's a perfectly legitimate excuse for missing expectations. It's not like they've missed the expectations for a team led by Ben DiNucci.

Do you honestly believe that if this season, day 1, the starting offense would have Dinucci, Steele, Erving, Biadasz and Schultz, the expectation would have been the same? Lol.

Vegas should maybe lower its expectations for the Cowboys offense. Or maybe people should stop betting on the Boyz to cover

Cowboys may reach 3 wins this season. I don't see them doing better than that. Hopefully they will have a top 3 pick they can trade back from and get on the fast track to rebuilding this dung heap.
