I've been a Cowboys fan since about 1972 (Cardiac Cardinals prior to that). Seen a lot of good times and bad times with this team. Met several of the old guys up close and personal when they practiced at the Forest Lane facility, one could walk right up to a player as they were going out to their car, lol. Anyhow, in my diminishing memory capacity, there have been two other really low points that stick out.

1. The Drop (Jackie Smith - SB XIII 1979)
2. 3-13 (1988)

2024 is shaping up to rival these other two seasons. But this season, it's happening in an almost comical way. At least that's how I've resigned myself from a fan's standpoint. One word truly exemplfies this rendition of the 2024 Dallas Cowboys:

DISFUNCTIONAL

We’ve had some bad ones for sure. The JG era was the worst for me only because we wasted a ton of talent on a project coach.

What’s different this season is the blame is more on Jerry than ever before from what I remember. Dak and Mike are a close 2nd and 3rd.

Yes. It was set up to fail from this offseason. They should have made a decision on Mike McCarthy after the Green Bay loss. Either extend him or fire him and start over.

The last 2 Landry years were poor. Aging players from a great era and you saw the decline in front of your eyes. Herschel Walker provided some optimism but he was a bright light in an all too poor squad. Bad drafting by Gil Brandt in tge 80s didn't help.

89 for me was at least the start of a new era. Troy, Moose and Step, Tolbert were drafted 1234 I think and despite a 1-15 record you could sense a change was inevitable..

Campo had some poor quality rosters, wasted seasons after Troy retired.

Garrett wasted multiple HOF careers and now imo we've invested 240m in a dud that'll set us back years

2008 is the worst season I’ve ever seen….

I been a fan since 1991

I never said I hate Dallas until they closed out Texas stadium (a literal second home to me I cry when I see that beautiful stadium) and they closed it out in embarrassing fashion back to back 80 yard runs for tds

9-6

Then losing 44-6 to the Eagles in a win or go home game

9-7 missed the playoffs

You only needed one win! I hated that team…it still kinda carries over today

This year idc if we’re bad, the draft is stacked! Screw it go 3-14 idc

Odd you would mention 3-13 in 1988 but not 1-15 a year later. The 3 straight 5-11 seasons with Campo were also a low point.

As for individual moments that made a season tough, Smith’s drop was hard to swallow, and it has certainly stuck with me but it wasn’t a game deciding play. even though it wasn’t in the SB, “The Catch” is the individual play that really sticks in my gut.

2019 is the most recent collapse. Team had way more talent than this and did nothing with it.

A lot of people on here saw this coming.

The worst seasons for me have been the ones that become hopeless during the season itself, and where the following season or two looks dreadful.

Based on that criteria ((born in 1972), the follow ing have been among the worst:
1988 (I knew nothing about college football)
2000
2001
2002 (before we knew Parcells would be hired)
2011
2012 (groundhog days of Garrett 8-8s that they seemed unable to escape)

Not there yet with this team since 2025 could be a 2016 or 2014 type rebound year.
