What makes this season one of the worst was being able to see the storm clouds forming in the off-season and knowing this was almost predictable. When your GM has as bad an off-season as ours did, this season was visible a mile away.

The fact that’s he’s surprised by any of this says everything we need to know about what a bad GM he is.

Yes and I say that only because I'm optimistic a new HC will help.
I would love to be optimistic. But until Jerry makes some major fundamental changes in the way he and his son run this thing, change will remain cosmetic.

if they can keep it to 4/5 wins max this will be one of my favorite seasons in a while because you know there will be change and next year will have hope again.

Odd you would mention 3-13 in 1988 but not 1-15 a year later. The 3 straight 5-11 seasons with Campo were also a low point.

As for individual moments that made a season tough, Smith’s drop was hard to swallow, and it has certainly stuck with me but it wasn’t a game deciding play. even though it wasn’t in the SB, “The Catch” is the individual play that really sticks in my gut.
As mentioned in a couple posts, at least we saw changes coming in '89. I do recall, fans in Dallas were growing weary of the aging Landry team and at that time, many were calling for a new HC, lol. Landry had been the only captain we knew, so a change, any change, was a big deal. Not only did we get a change, it was a total house-cleaning. It's looking like that's the only way to go here as well.

I'll be the first to admit that I was hoping this O-Line would come together and make our below-average RB room look respectable. But the hits keep on coming, from every angle this seaon.

Any seasons after 96 with non winning records including those 500 seasons and those JG 8-8 seasons, those were brutal.

1974 (b4 dirt dozen draft, this was an aging team), 1987, 1988, 1997(when Deon ran the team and Switzer could care less), Campo era, and the entire Red Headed Genius era.

But 2024 is up there as far as having highly paid players and recent playoff history, and then the FO does nothing in the off season, this season may be #1.

We’ve had some bad ones for sure. The JG era was the worst for me only because we wasted a ton of talent on a project coach.

What’s different this season is the blame is more on Jerry than ever before from what I remember. Dak and Mike are a close 2nd and 3rd.
Agreed. The 2010-2013 era was maddening. I don't know if there's another team in the modern NFL that has managed to lose 4 defacto division championship games on the last game of the season in a row.

Those teams had enough to be better than 8-8, but terrible coaching, inconsistent play, and a complete aversion to adding any talent made us all live the nightmare every season.

This year's team is so undeniably terrible that I honestly don't care. Those 2010-2013 teams gave you enough to make you think they could do it.

1997, 2000, 2008, 2015, 2019 all sucked really bad too. Can't really say which one was the worst.

The 15 years after we last won was the worst for me ......... the last 15 years has just been a building anger and expectation to them losing.

I've been a Cowboys fan since about 1972 (Cardiac Cardinals prior to that). Seen a lot of good times and bad times with this team. Met several of the old guys up close and personal when they practiced at the Forest Lane facility, one could walk right up to a player as they were going out to their car, lol. Anyhow, in my diminishing memory capacity, there have been two other really low points that stick out.

1. The Drop (Jackie Smith - SB XIII 1979)
2. 3-13 (1988)

2024 is shaping up to rival these other two seasons. But this season, it's happening in an almost comical way. At least that's how I've resigned myself from a fan's standpoint. One word truly exemplfies this rendition of the 2024 Dallas Cowboys:

DISFUNCTIONAL
You’re really living in the moment if you think this season rivals the 1-15, 89 season which you left out. I also started following the Cowboys in 72 and never expected the 89 season to be as bad as it was. I thought the previous 3-13 season was as bad as it would ever get. I thought with all the changes that were made with a new owner, HC and coaching staff, along with a new QB taken number one overall, the Cowboys would at least win 5-6 games. I was never more depressed as a Cowboys fan than I was after the 89 season. The team got worse and traded away their best player. Jerry looked like a bigger joke than he does now. lol

The final two Landry seasons were not fun at all.

2000 - Aikmans final season. In and out of the lineup. Some Anthony Wright and an old Randall Cunningham at QB. That team also had to play against some nasty defenses. Completely overmatched.

2010 - Just despicable how the team just quit on Wade.

2015 - All I remember is Romo being injured, and having to watch Cassell, Weeden and finally Kellen Moore at QB.

2020 - Daks shattered leg and Mike Nolan's defense.

2024 - Everything stinks.

Disappointing for me means having high expectations for the team and having them ultimately dashed. The way I see it, I’m already safely grounded - no crash landing this season.

Ah man you just beat me to it lol.

2000 was the worst easily.

Jerry trades the next two years first rounders for a WR that blows up a knee in week one.

Aikman gets hurt and decides to quit.

I had to watch Randall Cunningham in a Cowboys uniform.

I have seen worse seasons in my 49 Years as a fan.
This is one of the worse as I know we have no hope for the future as long as Jerry is large and in charge.

It wasnt one season. It was the 3 straight years where we lost the win in your in nfc east games. Couldn't even get one of them. Still ticks me off.

Jerry went complete Al Davis mode that year putting together a track team at WR with Galloway, Rocket and James McKnight who could also fly. Then that first game it immediately all went up in flames. LOL

Seen rocket bottom in 89, but I was only 10...but remember my dad even telling me before the season it was gonna be rough.

I didn't have high hopes for this "all in" season, but didn't see them falling off the cliff like this.

The team is stuck with Dak and his salary cap sucking contract.
The team is struck with a broken Diggs who appears to have lost all heart.
The team is about to likely pay Micah a huge record setting deal and he's probably already seen his best days.
The team is stuck with an old senile man who doesn't live in reality.
The team is stuck with that old man's idiot son who is likely worse than him.

It's pretty dang bleak right now.
