Worst Team Name Ever: New Orleans Pelicans

What a horrid name. Hornets wasn't too bad but Pelicans is just awful. I feel like I upchuck just a bit every time I say it.

I realize they can't be the Jazz but find something that fits. I think Utah should just donate the name to save the NBA the embarrassment of having a team called the Pelicans.

They could have been anything and it probably wouldn't have been worse.

New Orleans Bayou and the mascot could be Swampthing. Or just be The Swampmonsters, anything.

Thankfully Dallas didn't go with the steers.

And state bird or not, it's awful. I doubt we'll see any team adopt the Woodpecker or Hummingbird as their mascot.......if there are states that have those.....because those names sound awful.

Going to be horrible for clothing sales. No one wants to wear crud with a pelican name or bird on it. It sounds dumb, looks dumb....whoever is making this decision is clueless.

I understand why some don't like Pelicans. I wouldn't.

I was always glad my team wasn't the Ducks or the Beavers either.

I guess by the time those mascot names were picked, all of the good ones were taken.
