There is a thread open about Jerry being open to hiring Aikman as a GM. I see this as meaning Jerry may be warming up to the idea of a GM. Could Jerry hire Jimmy Johnson as a GM? Before you blast me as naive or such, here's why I think this:
  • Jerry was talking about how badly he screwed up (not going to use the actual wording).
  • Jerry and Jimmy created magic together. I think Jerry knows full well about the magic they made together for our team.
  • Jimmy said on television back in the Spring that he still likes Jerry. They may have been mad at each other, but it seems to me like their relationship is warming up in a good way.
  • Jerry still gets to have a coach other than Jimmy coaching the team, while Jimmy gets to play the role of GM.
  • Most importantly for Jerry, the money would be enormous. Just the notion of Jerry and Jimmy working together again for the Cowboys would bring fans to the stands in a huge way.
  • The media influence as a result would shoot through the roof.
  • Oh, and the fanbase could very rapidly regain confidence in the team knowing that Jerry and Jimmy are trying to recreate that magic.
I know it seems unlikely, but I think there's actually a really legitimate chance that Jimmy might at least ask Jimmy about being the GM. What a time, that would be for this team? If he's open to the GM idea, which he sounds like he is, Jimmy would be a groundbreaking choice for Jerry.

As you suggested this is unlikely. Highly unlikely. But all Jimmy seems to want to do these days is to go fishing on his boat. Last year he even found it in to the NFL today pregame shows. I don’t think he’s looking for another intense, time demanding job.

Maybe if Jerry gave him an office on his luxury yacht and he could fish off the side between zooming in meetings. Then again, no

That's true, but if Jerry wanted to, he could sweeten the pot a lot for Jimmy. The way I see it, Jimmy might be a part-time GM in this situation. Almost like an advisor.

Jimmy's got it made and has nothing to prove. No chance of this happening.

He makes $600,000/year for showing up on Sundays and talking football for a few hours. He owns a restaurant in the Keys, and fishes whenever he likes.

He's also 78 years old and, unlike Jerry, isn't fixated on winning a ring with his son.

Jimmy doesn't want to put in the 15 hours a week needed to be a TV Analyst.. no way he will put in the 80 plus hours a week to work in the NFL again. And he was absolutely HORRIBLE at player acquisition (Drafts).. so I would vote no either way.

This.

Just a thought. I mean, I don't think it'll happen, but this was why I thought it could be a possibly good idea. Personally, I think, if I had to bet on who he'd choose, I'd guess probably Garrett. Terrible at coaching, but he did bring in good players. He just couldn't coach them.

I didn't know he was bad at drafting? Then again, I'm 28 lol.

A dual title ceremony inducting Jimmy into the Ring of Honor AND naming him Dallas Cowboys GM.

I have an active imagination, lol.

It wasnt Garrett's job to bring in the talent so I cant agree on Garrett being a GM.

Emmitt Smith for GM.
Larry Allen for GM.
Drew Pearson for GM.
Dez for GM.

Let’s make Dak GM. Pay him $39M for being GM and $1M for being QB. Do I know how to work the cap, or what?
The only former player I would ever want for Jim. Would be Roger Staubach. Other than that they don’t have the entire package and it takes

I know how much you disapprove Garrett. But it was him who wanted to start from the ground up build the office of line and then the defense of line. But he was stopped before he could complete

10 years? Maybe he isn’t aware of the 4 year contracts, plus the career span and age of his players? Salary cap? Etc. How much more time did he need?
