would Nate Allen be the best choice?

I've been thinking about this for awhile. And I'm starting to think that, if Earl Thomas isn't available when we pick in the 1st rd, that the Nate Allen would be the best option for us. Trade down a little, and take Nate Allen. And the reason I say this is because he comes from USF, and he played with Mike Jenkins. We have seen Jenkins grow as a corner, and become a real NFL player. Hitting the film room, studying, and trying to become better. I think that he would take Allen under his wing, and show him how to become a NFL player. So as much as I think Earl Thomas could be great, so do a lot of others. He will probably be picked in the top 20, and if that happens, I hope they trade down a bit, or even stay put if no one wants to trade up, and take Nate Allen.

Burnett almost had as many interceptions in one season (7) as Allen had in his entire career (9), and Burnett recently tested through the roof at his Pro Day in almost every drill while Allen still hasn't worked out.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !! bring him in Jerry. Those numbers are a bit mis leading because I read somewhere that Allen has had 4 int throughout his career that have been called back. Just read some scouting reports on both of them.

Burnett is a bit raw if you ask me, plus I just think Nate Allen has better upside, there's more to being a safety than the number of interceptions you had in one season.. MB is a watered down Kenny Phillips playing FS

Trading down for him is actually what I would call the worse case scenario. There should still be some first round prospects available with all the juniors that declared.

What makes him raw? He was a high school phenom recruit, went to Georgia Tech and started as a true freshman and led the team in interceptions, then had 7 ints as a sophomore than had 4 ints last year. Then he goes to his pro day and tests absolutely through the roof in every category (coming off an injury).


Plus, I can hardly think of anything more unreliable and subjective than college tackle stats, where people get credited for standing next to piles.
