Would the 49ers allow Singletary to break his contract to become Cowboys DC?

If Singletary is the hot commodity that many people here claim that he is, why would the 49ers allow him to walk when they still have him under contract? It doesn't make any sense for the 49ers to do this.

Because most people have a heart and they would realize that keeping him in SF when he really wants to go to Dallas would not be a good situation for anyone.

Why would any team allow a coach go for an interview? Teams know the only way to attract good coaches is by giving them chances to better themselves be it on your own team or by allowing them a chance else where. You start denying assistant coaches opportunities and you will be hard press to find young coaches who want to be a member of your staff.

Maybe they feel he will leave eventually and they want to fill the DC spot with someone that will stick around for 3-4 years. You don't want coaches on your staff that would rather be somewhere else and hold a grudge that the team blocked them from advancing. Also, no team wants to have the rep of denying their coaches oppurtunities to advance when other teams come calling. That team would quickly find it hard to attract good coaches. If another team want Singletary for a DC and they do not, they will let him persue the other job.

Bears have already determined they will keep him as their HC. Lovie coming to Dallas as HC would not be a promotion. Recently Lovie said he intends on staying in Chicago but chances are it will come down to how much the Bears are willing to pay.

Singletary is an Assistant Coach not a Defensive Coordinator which is a step up. If the Cowboys hired him, he would need to be called Defensive Coordinator. If this happens than the 49ers have no say whatsoever because its a step up for Singletary which is the League Requirement.

True but the 9ers could counter offer and make him the DC. Currently they are interviewing DC and Campo is one guy they will be interviewing.

This has been done away with. The only way you can talk to an assistant coach is get permission or be interviewing him for the HC job.

Just like the Dolphins did Jason Garrett and the Cowboys a favor allowing him to be hired as an offensive assistant since he still was under contract to be the team's quarterback coach one more year. But you are thinking along the right lines, although Singletary has only coached four seasons, half as many as Todd Bowles, who's considered the leading candidate to become the defensive coordinator.

I think that the 49ers decided not to hire Campo. They had him out over a week ago and made some sort of announcment to that regard.

They did have Greg Manusky from SD out last week -- he's been mentioned here a bit as a DC candidate for us. My guess is that SF either gives Singeltary the DC job to keep him there or hires Manusky and lets Mike go. Realistically, many teams are not going to keep guys from moving up -- it doesn't create a great coaching atmosphere. Alternatively, they promote Mike and we give Manusky a shot at DC.

I cant see San Fran blocking him from coming to Dallas if he really wants to come here. the guy is from Texas and grew up not that far from Dallas...he was a cowboys fan growing up etc...and there has been some speculation in the past he would love to be with the cowboys some day.

if San Fran isnt going to hire him for DC...which it seems they will not...I cant see Nolan forcing a guy to stay who wants to take a higher position elsewhere...unless they have plans to promote him within the San Fran org which there are no reports to suggest that

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Nolan obviously has ties to the Cowboys organization as well. It would be hard for me to imagine they would block that move if, indeed, Singletary wanted to take the job. I guess we'll see.
