Watch Grant just anchor and shut down the middle vs Ohio State. I never saw a cutup like that from Mazi.
I actually have Grant as the #2 DT in the class ahead of Harmon. He is the ideal fit of what our defense truly needs, an impact interior run defender. He also doesn't give you nothing as a pass rusher, although more of a push the pocket guy with a swim move.

just a push up the middle on a pass play is important; that forces the QB out of the pocket and is much more subject to pressure and getting sacked except for those like Lamar

Brady said that he always feared pressure up the middle most; and BB always worked to have a strong middle of the O line

Davis is a good NT, is Jalen Carter’s conscience, and I hope we have him for 10+ years. But the only way he earns the 1st round capital we invested in him is if he has a Brandon Graham-like career
Do you think they will pick up Jordan's 5th-year option? I noticed his snap count is just a little over 50%.......which tells he's the classic 2-down player.

I think he 100% will be here long term, but I don’t know the technicalities of the fifth year option.

We had a draft pick in 2017 named Derek Barnett (who was actually the guy who recovered Graham’s strip sack on Brady to win the Super Bowl) and he was an okay run defender but a weak pass rusher. Firmly entrenched as a rotational player…. Howie picked up his fifth year 10m$ option. So perhaps it’s not this dramatic contract thing people make it out to be.

Jordan’s fifth year option is projected to be 11m$. DJ Reader is a good comparison here. He’s a better player than Jordan, but also a lot older. When he’s been healthy this year, he’s played 52% of the snaps at 335 lbs. 58% in 2023. Lions paid him 11m$ a year in FA back in March. So maybe picking up 11m$ tab for Jordan that doesn’t trigger until 2026 when the cap is much bigger and to help extend the length of the next extension is something Howie thinks is smart. Or maybe it isn’t; will be interesting to find out.
