i know some teams put a OT in as te for extra run support during running plays, couldn't a team do that with both te and have one shift back to the full back or h-back spot? thus creating an extra layer of protection for the pocket/completly immobile qbs?

any one know if there is a rule againts this or something?

Don't know about shifting but they have used Marcus Spears at FB in some goal line situations last year.

Happens alot, but generally they use a DE/DT, the thinking being that the DE/DT is quicker and used to finding the holes in the line.

The rules state that you have to have 7 men on the LOS. If you want this to be 7 OL, you can do it. You do have to declare all players who line up outside the normal OT positions as eligible. You can line up an OL in the backfield as a FB. So, technically yes it can be done, but I doubt it's advisable. You'd basically be announcing a run and you'd have at least 3 guys playing out of position to run the play. Might work in some short yardage situations, but it could be defensed pretty easily.

yeah it would be used in goal line situations or those down by two points and its 4th and inches types of plays. not 1st and 10

I like it! We can start calling him Marcus "The Refrigerator" Spears! As Hostile says, this type of arrangement would just shine a spotlight on the run, but would work in certain situations...
