Would Turner/Rivera have worked out better here?

Is this a coincidence?

Rivera leaves Philly in '04, and outside of their Super Bowl berth the following year, the Eagles aren't the same team like in previous years under Reid.

Rivera leaves Chicago last year, and the Bears are a 180 degree different team than they were since he got there in '04.

Rivera joins the Chargers staff when Turner is hired, and they go from classic underachievers to quietly going to the AFCCG this year, and not to mention too SD lead the league in TOs forced this year.

Anyhow-last year when Jerry was doing his coaching search, it was reported that Turner told Jones that if hired, he wanted to bring Rivera on as DC.

Not that it matters anymore, but just for the heck of it-would we have been any better off if this duo got hired instead?

Fair question. Impossible to answer.

I'm happy with what we've got.

Though I am pulling for Norv this weekend. He is so routinely disrespected as a HC that I would love to see his team pull off a miracle this weekend. How ironic would it be if Norv Turner wrote the final chapter on "history's greatest team." :laugh2:

No.

Rivera was such a magical coach, he got fired from Chicago and had to take a demotion to find a job.

No, we are committed to the 34 and Riveria doesn't coach that system. If we go back to the 43, we've wasted a lot of money and high round picks. Don't forget the Cowboys were the 3rd highest team in sacks. I do think we need add a good ILB who can stop the rush and also is good in pass coverage. Is Burnett the man who can do that and replace Ayodele? If he were, wouldn't Burnett already have won the job. Will be interesting to see if/when we draft a ILB. On the other hand, maybe at some point the coaching staff comes around to believing that Carpenter can do that job -- but it sure doesn't look like it although I admit I would love it.

And yet, the problem with the Eagles hasn't been their defense, but their offense.

And yet, the Chicago Bears were killed with injuries this year, and their problem hasn't been defense as much as offense.

And yet, Rivera inherited a team that was among the best in the league in TOs anyways, and speaking of which, they didn't play all that well last game...

Not a chance... No matter who is coaching the fact of the matter was that our nickel corner was piss poor and team's targeted him week in and week out. You can't scheme around one certain player, especially a guy in the secondary. Our team however has 2 guys in the secondary that can't cover, so the scheme is only as good as the people you have back there.
