Would Wentz still be our QB if we’d drafted him?

We all know how prideful Jerry & co. are.

Let’s run a hypothetical that very nearly happened…

Let’s say the Cowboys moved up in the draft in 2016 and took Carson Wentz.

Let’s also say that Carson Wentz’s play, while in Dallas, aligns with the career he’s actually had so far (with the Eagles and Colts, and now ‘Skins - I won’t call them the Commanders).

Here’s the big question: Would the Cowboys have held on to Wentz through all the struggles and would he still be the starting QB for this team?

I 10000% say YES. Jerry would be too proud and arrogant to admit he was wrong on that level, so I believe Carson Wentz would be making $40+ million/year and we’d still be forced to listen to Jerry telling us, “without being trite, uhhhh, Wentz is a guy that, uhhh, we believe, uhhhh, can lead us, uhh, to the Super Bowl.”

Wentz would still be the QB here but Jerry would have been right.

"I promise you I'm great," Prescott said. "Just being very, very precautious. Switched shoes today, probably wasn't the best idea. We're good to go. Promise that."

Prescott was on the field Thursday for a portion of practice that was open to the media before heading to the locker room. He said he did not twist the ankle in practice; he was breaking in a new pair of Jordan 11s after wearing Jordan 1s all summer during training camp. He wore the Jordan 11s for games last season, but he said he will switch back to the Jordan 1s.

"That's this league, and if you don't report a hangnail, you'll get suspended or they'll get fined, excuse me," Prescott said. "But, no, I feel great. I still feel the best that I've felt in a very, very long time. Not even comparable to where I was last year going into this game. Honestly, just excited and ready for Sunday to get here."

He said this minor setback will not limit him Sunday.

"Not at all. It can't," Prescott said. "Not at all. Not a chance."

Prescott should know anything 11 in Dallas is bad for the health of QBs.

Hells Bells, he would! JJ would have signed this overrated slap to some huge ridiculous contract that would have buried the Cowboys for years to come............... It's his style!

Maybe, but it's hard to say without knowing how he performed here. Different circumstances would result in a different performance.

Now, if he performed the same as he did in Philly, then I think he would not have received a second contract. Understand that Wentz got his second contract with Philly after his third year (2019) because the Eagles wanted to take advantage of giving him an extension to keep the first couple of years of his new deal low. Prescott didn't get his second contract until after his fifth year (2021), so let's assume Dallas would have exercised Wentz's fifth-year option instead of giving him a new deal before then.

Based on Wentz's 2020 season, when he led the league in interceptions thrown (15), total turnovers (19), and sacks taken (50) despite only playing in 12 games, I would say that Dallas would not have given him a second contract. However, I would not be surprised if they would have franchise tagged him to see if he could bounce back.

One thing we know is that the Cowboys have not been good at trading since Jimmy, so there's no way we would have been able to trade him for a first and third.

I know this is not the knee-jerk response expected with this sort of thread, where we are supposed to just bash Jerry, but the Cowboys are a more frugal team now. They reward their own, but not necessarily immediately unless they feel they are absolutely sure the player is worth it (i.e, Dak was tagged for a year, Schultz is tagged for a year), etc. I can't see them being sure about Wentz up to this point.

Wentz is probably the greatest QB in Eagles history. Either Wentz or Foles.

Yes. Jerry's #1 priority was never drafting a quarterback. 2009 was his last drafted quarterback, Stephen McGee.

Lol. Did you miss the Jaworski & McNabb era's?!

Wentz would have taken the first deal Jerry offered like he did in Philly. Wentz probably would have slapped his agent if he turned down the deals that Jerry was trying to get over on Dak. He knew was a garbage QB that was fooling the GM and owner in Philly.

Does he have a freaky knee injury on a goal line play like he did in Philly?

well said, my brother! You’re right, I wasn’t expecting this amount of thought to go into most of the replies, but I like that you did
