Would Wentz still be our QB if we’d drafted him?

Lol. Did you miss the Jaworski & McNabb era's?!

Nope. Jaws was good, not great. McNabb cost Andy Reid at least one championship. The well is pretty dry with great Eagle QBs. The true greatest QB in Eagles history, if not Wentz, might actually be Cunningham.

We all know how prideful Jerry & co. are.

Let’s run a hypothetical that very nearly happened…

Let’s say the Cowboys moved up in the draft in 2016 and took Carson Wentz.

Let’s also say that Carson Wentz’s play, while in Dallas, aligns with the career he’s actually had so far (with the Eagles and Colts, and now ‘Skins - I won’t call them the Commanders).

Here’s the big question: Would the Cowboys have held on to Wentz through all the struggles and would he still be the starting QB for this team?

I 10000% say YES. Jerry would be too proud and arrogant to admit he was wrong on that level, so I believe Carson Wentz would be making $40+ million/year and we’d still be forced to listen to Jerry telling us, “without being trite, uhhhh, Wentz is a guy that, uhhh, we believe, uhhhh, can lead us, uhh, to the Super Bowl.”

I created this topic just for you, @Risen Star
Yep, no way Jerry would turn lose of that bone.
He would still be the starter with a long-term contract.

So glad we never need to answer this question.

And Wentz is slight improvement over Hurts.

"What if" questions are so boring, IMHO. Nothing can ever be proven by them.

well said, my brother! You’re right, I wasn’t expecting this amount of thought to go into most of the replies, but I like that you did

I think the injuries alone would have scared them, the way they did with DeMarco Murray even though he was coming off a record year. Wentz had the ACL tear in 2017, then had a back injury in 2018. Of course, Dak's broken ankle didn't exactly keep us from re-signing him, so there's some inconsistency there.

We also need to remember that Philly drafted Jalen Hurts in the second round, so the Eagles had someone ready to take over when Wentz faltered in 2020, which made it easier to trade Wentz away. Now, we can say that our GM probably would not have had a second-round QB ready to step in based on draft history. It makes it tougher to trade away your QB when you don't have anyone to replace him. Dallas would have had to spend a first-rounder if it traded Wentz, while Philly just pocketed the pick since it had already invested in Hurts.

1. Behind our OL and his propensity for taking off running immediately, Wentz would be in a convalescent home by now.

2. Wentz was awful with WRs, and despite Witten being a Hall of Famer, the Eagles had two TEs there during Wentz’s time that were both better than Witten, so Wentz would have been a very bad fit.

I don’t expect much, but Wentz may be decent in DC because their offense seems much more like Philly’s than ours.

Tough to say how is football career would be different. Coming out of college every expert, coach, player or fan would have picked him over Dak due to his natural tools he showed in college and his early years.

Philly just mentally broke him and he never recovered. Plus throw in the mounting injuries. Also not sure how entirely true it is but he seems not to get along with his teammates in the locker room from past teams/players.

He may very well end up as QB2 material in a couple years if he doesn't get it right soon

Cowboys would of had a ring with Wentz. He would of had so much more support on offense. Dak had all those first rounders.

Yes. Jerry's #1 priority was never drafting a quarterback. 2009 was his last drafted quarterback, Stephen McGee. Lol. Did you miss the Jaworski & McNabb era's?!

I would take Randall Cunningham over Wentz any day of the week and twice on Sunday's.

Honestly, no BS, I think he would be. We do not cut bait quickly at all. It’s related to us being reactive and not proactive

I can't even imagine what Kellen would do with a QB...it literally would be unfair to the rest of the league.

The real question is whether we could have found a sucker that would have given us as much as Philly got when they traded him.
