Would you be willing to trade up in the draft?

You don't move up just to move up, but if there's a guy you really believe in and want to have and feel will impact your team in a big way, then you have to move up to get him....the cost is never too much unless you were wrong about the guy, and that's your fault.

WE've been hurt many more times by not moving up for whom we really wanted and by even moving down than we have by going after the real difference makers.

It all depends on what you think of the guy you're moving up for.

Exactly, who's the guy that's worth trading up for? Mike Williams, yeah, maybe. But for all his skill, he's had one year off, and has to knock off a little rust. If that drops his value to #11, then it would be foolish to trade up for him.

I don't know that there is any player in this draft worth trading up for. The best value may be found by trading down.

If BMW runs a 4.5 like expected, he will NOT drop to us at #11. The only chance of 'dropping' would be to #9, in my opinion.

You know who is sitting at #9? The Washington Commanders.

the chosen one was kellen winslow.. that TE that the browns took with the 5th pick i believe. he could make witten and shockey look like scrubs, jk.. no but the guy has amazing speed for his size and strength. hes more like a big WR.

Thanks. But Winslow played for Miami. You said FSU, which threw me off. I didn't recall a FSU player taken high in the 2004 draft.

I don't see anyone really worth trading up for. There's some good players in this draft, but the value is in the middle of round one through the early 3rd. I don't see any "must have" players at the top.
There's some guys I'd like to have, but I think one or two will fall to us - and if not, I don't think the price to move up would be worth the reward.

I've thought about Williams as well, both if we should trade up, and the fear of him going to the Skins. But I think he's going to run a fast time at the combine -- he's a hard worker, and he's had a year to train -- and he won't get past the Raiders at #7.

Mike Williams is the only player that I would trade up for. For every other position there is an equal or near equal talented counter piece. i.e. Johnson vs Merriman, Rolle vs Rogers, or Spears vs James. But Edwards is more close to Clayton as far as I would class him. Mike Williams on the other hand I believe will be the best WR to come out since Moss. This guy is for real he believes in Mike Williams 100%, and so do I.

My top five draft prospects by ranking

1) Mike Williams (not a top need, but potentially top player coming out, and the only player worthy of a trade up in my opinion)

2) Spears ( once again not a top need at DE, but potentially the best DL coming out)

3) S. Merriman ( over DJ because of size and could excel at both the DE or OLB in a 3-4)

4) D. Johnson ( last player that is worthy of the 11th pick, solid playmaker at the OLB position)

5) A. Hawthorne ( after a trade down no lower than the 16th pick, solid pick for a struggling D-line that is soft at the NT position.)

Usually the top 10 is real clear - kind of has a flow and there are 5-7 no brainers at the top. This year its kind of a free for all. There are 15-20 guys and I don't see a huge difference or drop offs. This could be a wild and wolly draft! Lots of suprises!

I think its time to stay at 11 and 20 and go get football players.

i'm with you. stand pat and BPA - 'cept if it's a 1st or 2nd round TE. don't need one.

BPA cept :)

Miller only advocated if on the board in 2. Total weapon and top 10 talent when this draft is over, score in 2 for us.

Who do you take in 2 instead Mr Whipple?

No! I would sit tight and take D. Johnson LB if he is there and if not one of the 2 WR"s you mentioned would be my next in line.

naw, this draft is deep in grocery store managers. we could get one late on the second day. :)
justin tuck, ernest shazor, brodney pool, michael munoz, demarcus ware, darryl blackstock, khalif barnes, albert means, chris henry... there'll be plenty of value there outside OUTSIDE of TE. i wanna see IMMEDIATE IMPACT. another TE just don't get us there. fair enough?

if anything we should trade down. Right now we're looking at Merriman with #11 and i believe he can fall to #20. It won't hurt for us to trade #11 for a first and either 2nd or 3rd. One of the best possibilites i see is us trading #11 to Philly for their 1st and 2nd. This is a little risky because we're dealing w/ a team in our own division but they already have so much mor talent than us it wouldn't really hurt us.

I would tend to agree with you guys- dont trade up- there is no Roy or Eli in this draft that warrants such a deal.

Here is what I would do-

1) if DJ or MW is there at 11 I take em and laugh- would be a steal
2) if those two are not there - I look for a trade down a few spots-

then
1) i take shawn merriman with lets say the 14 th pick.
2) at 20 I look at Troy Williamson / khalif barnes/

KELLEN WINSLOW WILL BE THE BEST HYBRID TE/WR IN THE GAME WHEN HE RETURNS FULLY HEALTHY IN 05- watching the game against us he was open almost every play-

It depends on how much it would cost us. I don't want to give up any first rounders except the #11 pick. I don't want to trade away our second rounder because this draft is deep and a second rounder can bring in a really good player. I want it to involve next year's draft and maybe we give them next year's second round pick.

As far as receiver is concerned I am a fan of Roddy White. We can get him easily at #20 (or the lower of the two first rounders) so we can use our #11 pick (or the higher of the two first round picks) on DE/LB and address CB in the second round. Since the rule change makes it impossible to have a "shutdown" CB, there is no point in taking one higher than the first round when there are other holes to be filled.

If it doesn't cost us too much, I am a big fan of moving up to the #8 or higher and ticking off the skinz fans.

Not at all, there not worth it. Defense wins championships, we need to get a lb that can catch too, send him out in the flat on 3rd and short after hes pancaked a lineman.
---I agree with one thing DEFENSE--remember when we won the Super Bowls--We had #1 Defense and Offense---I am impressed with Tuna wanting to install the 3-4--and use big linebackers---Linebackers have too get into to the mix to stop the run and let the secondary stop the passing game

--We need help but I think we are closer than some think to going to superbowl--Cowboys need to get mean like they were, earlier in mid 90s and draft mean.--Smash mouth football thats what we were all about at one time--We must be careful-- draft --counting on one big impact player and he gets hurt.----I think Big Tuna will trade down for more choices---Remember at one time Drew Hensen put Tom Brady on the bench at Michigan---he has a cannon like Vinny and he is young---Danzler will he hit he has the big time speed--can he help Roy back there---Bill said he needs a back up with speed to relieve Julian---Big--Big steal I think would be Henderson from Texas Tech---than all we need is a big bruiser to help out---Another Big steal is Durant QB from NC--big guy and big time speed--I think about 220lbs--maybe a tad smaller
