Would you bring him back next season?

I personally would treat his negotiatons much like the Ranger's treated CJ Wilson this offseason.

Just offer him something like 4 years and 4 to 5 mill a year. If he signs the contract then great and if he doesn't then that is fine too.

I would rather get some stop gap in Free Agency that to invest big money in this player.

At this stage, I let him shop the FA market. If he can be brought back at a good price then sure I bring him back, having guys who can rotate in and out of the lineup on defense is important. However I also think he will be given a bigger offer than the Cowboys will be willing to match.

I don't think you can just let him walk. He is a starter caliber player. I would definitely look at upgrading, but there would be a cap on his price.

If you just let him walk and then can't replace him, then you've done yourself a disservice. Now, if he is demanding more money than his production warrants, then you let him walk.

I wouldn't pay him more than say a 4 year $16M deal.

Try and keep him at a competitive salary for a top five 3-4 outside LB.

I'm sorry dude, but he isn't top five and I would be beyond pissed off if they paid him like he was!!!

I don't want a player who takes plays off when the chips are down.

Top five available in FA. How about that? ;)

I'd bring him back for the right price.

While I don't hate him like some do, and I realise he's a solid not spectacular football player, I wouldn't want to pay a bunch to keep him.

we need to either upgrade his position or the DE in front of him so that we have a real pass rush opposite of D Ware. I think the Boys will be looking at this real close; if they have a chance to upgrade his spot I think they take it. If not they will look to try and upgrade the the DE. What Spencer's agent is asking for will have a big impact. If the Boys do not think the price is reasonable, they will let him go.

If they go back to a 4-3, there are options though some are aging.

  • Robert Mathis
  • John Abraham
  • Cliff Avril (only 25)

Of course Spencer is there too. Spencer might actually be a better player if he was playing a 4-3 DE.

If the rumors are true that the Cowboys are looking at Steve Spagnuolo, this would be an interesting move. Though I just don't see that happening. I see them going after Dom Capers first.

I have a feeling he will be playing in a Cowboy's uniform next season.

Same, but I would like an upgrade. Just don't know that we can afford it, and the draft is a crap shoot.

No, I wouldn't bring him back. He admits to taking plays off and quitting. He has no fire or passion for the game - or at least it never shows. No place for these types of guys anymore, regardless of the price. Time to move on. This defense needs to be dismantled. Complacency has to be eliminated. The Mertelus Bennetts, Bradies James', Terrence Newmans and Anthony Spencers of the team have to GO!

Leadership on this team (Garrett, Jerry, etc..) needs to show guys that the organization expects excellece in effort, performance, and attitude.

Won't argue that.

Spencer won't be back.
He is going to surprise you guys with how much money he gets.
I am now saying he is great, but he has flashed enough that some team will give him a lot of cash. He has some playmaker in him, strips the ball well, is quick with good acceleration. Good athlete. Just can't work through blocks and has a questionable motor. But he is still pretty young - someone will pay him hoping he develops into a top player.

He would make a better DE in a 4-3 than he does an OLB in a 3-4 IMO.

Agree with signing him if we can, but he will draw better offers from other teams I expect. If we had wanted to keep him, he would have been on Jerry's list for contracts this season, not waiting for now.

With the 14th selection of the 2012 draft, the Cowboys select a "PASS RUSHER"

Fix the O-Line, in FA.

Yes, he is. No question about it, at his position for sure. And that is where sticker shock keeps him out of Dallas.

No I ready to move on from guys like him we need to add players from outside at this time. The only guy i hope comes back is Robinson. We need to purge some of these guys and it starts with Spencer

Won't argue against it. Personal Accountability- if Spencer's motor was set to high speed on every snap, he would have had better production. If not sacks, then tackles. That has always been his biggest problem- like a magician, he disappears at times.

This team, every player- needs to play all out on every snap that they are on the field for. 75% won't get it done when every play can affect the outcome.

If a top Pass rusher is there at 14 great then take him. However it would be a mistake to reach of a guy because you want to improve the pass rush. As for Fix the OL in FA? I think you fix it where you can be it the draft/FA or both.

This notion we must draft a pass rusher with our 1st pick scares me because it reminds me of the days where we reached for guys just to fill a need and in the end you did neither. That is what happens when you reach.
