Will Eagles release Sheppard?
Posted: Monday April 21, 2008 06:48AM ET
The trade market for Lito Sheppard so far has not matched the Eagles expectations. The Eagles have tried to avoid acknowledging that they have to trade Sheppard - just last week, team president Joe Banner spoke as if a trade were some sort of reluctant, less-than-appealing option - but the fact is they have to trade Sheppard. He clearly isn't going to play here any longer under his current contract.

If we're bringing in Pacman, no thanks. He'll be much cheaper, and you know the Eagles wouldn't let Lito go to a division rival unless they felt they were getting a great deal.

they won't release him -- he's got good value, they are just asking too much

IF they release him ....... Jerry should sign him within the hour.

There is no way that the Eagles will out right release Lito. They would just lower their asking price.

i'd have to agree if for nothing more than damn good depth.

If he can be had for the same price as Pacman via trade I'd be all over it.

Anyone have a clue what his contract looks like?

I agree with zrinkill, Jerry should sign him within the hour.

i agree. sign Lito and release/trade henry if we won't take a big cap hit.

If I were Jerry, I'd call Philly on Saturday morning first thing and bug the hell out them until they trade Lito to us. I agree with the rest that Philly is likely asking to much. Just harass them until they give in Jerry!

come on people...first off they wont release him...if they do then somethings wrong with him that nobody else knows about yet

and if they did release him and nothing is wrong, he's gonna get a huge deal...there's no way I'd sign him to a huge deal at the expense of losing T-New, who's a vastly superior player

you think he's signing anywhere for cheap? how old is he? how many probowls has he been in?

he'll get a very significant contract if he ever got free

Are the Eagles having cap issues? Will they need to cut someone if they trade for a wide receiver, etc.?

I don't understand why he wouldn't play for them under his current contract if the Eagles are OK capwise. I can understand wanting to trade him, but cutting him just because of his contract doesn't make sense unless they need the money.

that explains the long line of teams willing to give up some token pick to get such a valued player.

I just don't see Philly letting him go to the Cowboys. Were already better than they are. And he fills a great need.

Actually I've read that they've had several teams inquire, and even offer, for him but the Eagles are being unrealistic about what they're going to get, pick wise, in a trade for him.

I'm quite sure there is a very nice market for a CB the caliber of Lito and if they just outright release him...yeah you can bet your last dollar he'll sign a nice, fat, deal.
