I believe Comcast still has a 300GB a month cap even with this $300 month offering, no thanks.

Plus, not many web servers will even serve files to you at max speed. The real benefit will be on torrenting and newsgroups and we know what most people grab off of those..

And about that new tech with the Vortex or whatever.. Yeah, receive data faster than your drive can store it, lol.

There is always a bottleneck.

Unreal.

The thing about these speeds is until they are widely accessible, they're not really as beneficial as advertised.

You can only receive as fast the sender can send.

In the console gaming world, you'd probably never find someone who could keep up. I'm not sure how that impacts gaming but I know I used to play with guys who had monster connections (relative to the norm) and they could barely connect with other players.

this is still a ways off anyway, they only got it to go 3 feet or something

The fiber-optic network will deliver speeds of 1 gigabit-per-second, which is more than 20 times faster than residential fiber optic services offered today in the U.S.

Ask and ye shall receive.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Encouraging residents here to rally each other, Google on Thursday unveiled the highly anticipated details of its new ultrahigh-speed Internet network, which is supposed to run 100 times faster than typical broadband connections.

The service, known as Google Fiber, will offer residents in selected parts of the metropolitan area in both Kansas and Missouri the option of purchasing the gigabit Internet service for $70 a month or both the Internet and a television service for $120 a month. The TV service, Google said, comes with a Nexus 7 tablet that serves as a remote.

I pay about $90 for internet and TV per month and would do this in a heartbeat. Plus you get a Nexus 7?? Sign me up right away!

I remember being back on dialup and it would take a good 5 minutes to download song from Napster or Limewire or whatever else it was at the time.

Kid I went to school with was loaded. I'm talking the type of loaded that secures wealth for generations because his family owned a large grocery chain.

He had cable at the time and he was downloading songs in seconds. I was amazed.

As it is right now you can download a song almost instantly. Imagine having something huge downloaded immediately after having clicked "confirm'.

LOL. I remember downloading updates for windows and going to bed hoping it finished by morning.

I assume businesses (and wealthy consumers) are those that this is really aimed for.

Exactly. The more I think about it the more I like this deal for my office I'll definately have to look into this when it's available.

hope it comes to texas soon, AT&T is giving me the run around right now trying to charge me $170 for 12mbps and TV, I'm probably going to have to cancel next month and sign up as a new customer again so I can pay a decent price, even after a $50 'activation' fee i'll save $50 or more the other 11 months
