Purely hypothetical and I'm on the record as liking the Cooper trade, but let's assume the prices were the same -

  • Amari Cooper for a 1st
or we pick up both
  • Golden Tate for a 3rd
  • D. Thomas for a 4th

Cooper....youngest of the bunch and gives us our skill player setup at wr and rb now for a good while.

Other two are good but not as much ceiling
I understand the younger argument, but we could've, at a lower cost, added two #1 WRs.... even if they're older, they both have 2 / 3 years in them.

Why are you making a trade in the first place.

If you are looking for a long term solution, Cooper. If you are trading for 2019, Tate and Thomas.

We are a young team. Why would you want older players on the roster especially at the WR position.
I am of the belief this team isn't as far off as the hysteria on this forum makes it out to be. I think we have some key issues, and adding two WRs threats would Beezy in the slot and allowing Gallup to learn under them would not only open up the running game, but turn our biggest weakness (passing game) into a strength. No more 8 man boxes, certainly no more 9 man boxes.

I could be wrong, but add a safety, and throw Thomas and Tate on this team, and we're a contender.

But you are only renting Tate for half a season.

All in all, if the reasons for making a trade was to evaluate Garrett and Prescott then Thomas for a 4th is the deal I would have made. You make the Cooper deal because you want your #1 WR for the next 7 seasons

We could've franchised Tate, or re-signed him.

I hope the Cooper trade works out big time, but the price of a 3rd / 4th for Tate / Thomas is very enticing.

You definitely don't want to franchise Tate, and being a weak year for WR's in FA you probably dont want to be on the hook for his next contract either.

At 30, Tate is probably going to be a bad signing for someone in the near future

Tate and Thomas are all older guys hitting 30 and so is Beasley. Gallup and Cooper make a more deadly combo than spending crazy money on old aging vets that aren't great players.

Cooper has more upside for sure. I just really hope this acquisition helps us for years to come.

Two is a crowd for Gallup and Beasley. It seems more simple just adding cooper to pair with the two.

this is his contract........and yes he's 30 yo
3/12/2014: Signed a five-year, $31 million contract. The deal contains $13.25 million guaranteed. 2018: $7 million, 2019: Free Agent

That was one of the best contracts in football. All because he played for Seattle and they didn't throw enough for him to get more than 50-800

He will get twice that on the market
