This question will likely define this draft for years to come, which is crazy considering Elliot's gonna be a star.

Lynch.

The odds of us finding a QB of his talent and skills again is very unlikely. If we do, we'll likely have to trade way up, give away picks and try to get him to start right away.

I'd rather have Lynch. And we may have still gotten Smith since teams were shying away from him.

Ask this again in a year or two when Romo is gone and Jerry is futilely drafting ex-baseball players who need to start right away instead of learning for a year or two on the bench.

Honestly I never envisioned the choice these last six months. I am searching desperately for a handle on the logic of this years draft and coming up empty. One thing is clear a GM that is not held accountable creates these scenarios. IMO we will soon see the talent level of the top two QB picks and pat ourselves on the back for not liking them enough to trade down for their services.

or the question could easily be:

Would you rather have your next franchise QB or Jaylon Smith's medical bills and a rotational DT?

Um, the question isn't that easy. nobody knows if Lynch will develop into a franchise QB. There are only about 12 of those guys walking the planet and I don't think that you can just assume that Lynch will enter that most exclusive of clubs. Even the best case scenario for Lynch was that he would sit for 2/3 years, learn the NFL game, then be ready to take over a team.

OTOH, before Smith's injury people were tabbing him as the best player in the draft. A cornerstone defender. If you apply the best case scenario to Smith at a minimum he becomes the anchor of your defense for 10 years.

In the end my opinion is that Jaylon Smith has better odds of developing into an elite player than Lynch. I base that simply off physical talent, complexities of the QB position, and the basic fact that playing defense is easier than playing offense.

Completely true. But Jaylon Smith could turn into Lawrence Taylor eventually and we still may never win a thing without a QB when Romo is gone.

If it was Ogbah or Dodd plus Collins for Lynch, I would take Lynch. If Smith doesn't work out, obviously Lynch. But if Smith recovers, its a slam dunk to take him and anyone over Lynch.

How is he a back-up any more than Dodd, Ogbah, Ragland, Fuller?

lol, Im pretty sure Ogbah and Dodd if we selected either one, would have been seen as eventual starters......Collins is purely a rotational guy, unless NFL coaching and/or NFL money motivates him more than college.....
