Would you sign Henry Ruggs?

Sorry, but what are we even talking about? Have you all seen the video? This guy was doing 156 mph. Watched a woman burn to death. Paid his debt? What a joke. This isn't some teenager that took out his fathers car and lost control and accidentally killed someone. He was doing 156 on a city street.

I love my cowboys, but if they consider bringing him in I would gladly find a new team to watch.

Football is a privilege. Not a right. He gets to move on once he is released. His victims can't.

I never said it was not a horrific thing that happened. I'm simply suggesting people ask how easily could that have been them. I certainly made poor decisions at 21/22 years old and got behind the wheel of a car when I shouldn't have a time or two. I'm pretty confident I'm not alone there either. "Luckily" for me I didn't have $20M in contract money, a Corvette to show off in, and the superior level of invincibility these young athletes often have.

I'm certainly not a better man that Henry Ruggs, just a more fortunate man who never got in a wreck during my poor decisions. For that reason I'll let the legal system judge him. I wont.
You're thinking about Ruggs' point of view here? It was more than a "dumb decision" a life was lost.
The fact that he spent the minimum time in prison is a disgrace.

No. Ruggs was a 1 trick pony big play guy at Bama.
He was insanely overrated.
Showed no ability to get open on a varied route tree.

Home run ability gets taken fast at the NFL level. Then you naturally lose it as you age.

in 19 starts he had 50 catches on 79 targets.
shut this one down, lets go home.

He got hammered at Top Golf and slammed into the rear of that woman's car at 156 MPH. The speed limit on that street is 45 MPH!

His blood alcohol a couple hours after the crash was 0.16.

The impact drove her car a couple of hundred feet and she and her dog burned to death. Riggs and the girl with him sat on the sidewalk as a few bystanders rushed to the woman's car, unfortunately they couldn't get her out.

His sentence was 3 to 10 years!

This incident followed on the heels of two other Raiders DUI incidents and the team themselves had made a big push to educate and inform the players about driving while intoxicated

It was a horrific event, no question about it....I'm not trying to change anyone's mind on that. The only thing I would encourage people to do is judge the behavior, not the result. Excessive speeding is excessive speeding....driving under the influence is driving under the influence. These are all activities that increase the likeliness of significant harm or death. If you've never participated in these activities then feel free to throw stones. Not saying any of it is OK, but I'm in no position to judge. I'm not 156mph guilty, but I'm still guilty of the same activities hes done, but simply lucky enough to avoid a crash that forced me to face the consequences of those actions. If released I will form my opinion on Ruggs more so on his actions after, rather than what is already done.

The result is the only thing that matters

Probably 95% of posters here have driven impaired. Doesn’t matter if you injured or killed someone, you still drove impaired.

No. Dallas doesn’t need a WR so why even bother with all the baggage? Charity?

I love the line "im not here to judge his behavior" but then you immediately counter with the "throw the first stone" which is a total judgement of those in opposition to your view.

You wanna support him. That's on you. But to me, he doesn't need any sympathy. Did he learn something in jail? I sure hope so. He should spend his time speaking to others about the effects of alcohol.

But he already got a second chance. He got a slap on the wrist, and now he is alive and free. Football is a privilege which he lost by his own actions.

Hopefully, the thread will return to its original question, which was:

Would you sign Henry Ruggs?
You are the general manager in this hypothetical. No one, including Jerry Jones, is in it.

Personally, I think all teams will pass on Henry Ruggs if-and-when he is ever released. Time will decide what his NFL-after-prison fate will or will not eventually be.

If he is in shape and ready to go I wouldn't hesitate to at least talk with the guy. He made a horrific mistake, no question about it, but its also a mistake that many have made only they didn't suffer the worst case result like Ruggs did.

Zero issue with a team giving him a 2nd chance, and as long as he is remorseful and fully understands the depth of his actions he is a guy you probably want to give a platform too. Hes a guy that if he rebounds would be excellent to have speak to NFL rookies each year about his experience to help prevent this from happening again.
He could also turn into a figure head to help bring attention to the issue. If he landed with the right team and was productive it could turn into a positive

The result is the only thing that matters
No it isn't..... if you get into an accident (100% accident, no negligence) and someone dies from it do you deserve to be thrown in prison?

If I shoot at someone, but miss because I have horrible aim do I get to walk free because no one got hurt?

Completely agree. You can't undo what Ruggs has already done, but I wont hold him back if he is ready to do good for the world. That part is still to be determined though.

I love the line "im not here to judge his behavior" but then you immediately counter with the "throw the first stone" which is a total judgement of those in opposition to your view.
Not at all. I said that others are free to throw stones....Personally I will not.

I was replying to your post where you said judge the behavior. If someone dies, yes you deserve to be thrown in prison.
Doesn't matter if it was an accident or on purpose. 4 years for the loss of one life seems too light to me, accident or not.

To me that is just a completely wild take. If you have a medical emergency while driving and hit/kill someone you do not deserve to go to prison. Intent and behavior absolutely matter.
