I think this is what some are missing........as an NFL player, he has a broad platform to reach 100s, maybe 1000s, especially younger kids. IF his experience can change the behavior of just a few, that would save 1 or 2 lives, it's well worth it.

To me that is just a completely wild take. If you have a medical emergency while driving and hit/kill someone you do not deserve to go to prison. Intent and behavior absolutely matter.

Yes I would rather an innocent person remain free over an accidental death instead of seeing them rot in prison for a result that is of no fault of their own.

This is common sense stuff....our legal system has 'sudden medical emergency' and 'acts of god' type defenses in place to protect people from these types of situations. Not every death that happens in this world needs to be avenged.
The person that swerved to avoid a deer that ran onto the road and caused an accident, and the person who was intoxicated and caused an accident should be viewed very differently despite the same outcome. Intent and behavior matter....I'm not sure how this is even up for debate.

Sorry, but what are we even talking about? Have you all seen the video? This guy was doing 156 mph. Watched a woman burn to death. Paid his debt? What a joke. This isn't some teenager that took out his fathers car and lost control and accidentally killed someone. He was doing 156 on a city street.

I love my cowboys, but if they consider bringing him in I would gladly find a new team to watch.

Football is a privilege. Not a right. He gets to move on once he is released. His victims can't.

Where's the justice for the victims' families then? Wouldn't every defense lawyer push to say claim every death was an accident?

People try to abuse legal clauses like these all the time....they often claim innocence by accidental means, insanity, etc. This is nothing new and why we have a court cases to review the evidence of those claims.

The bigger issue here is the thirst for justice. Locking up an innocent person just because someone has to take the fall, and it might make the family feel good isnt a win for anyone. It just ruins two lives and two families instead of one. No matter how much prison time they do its never going to bring that person back, and it will never heal the families hearts. The only way to release some of that hurt is by finding forgiveness. By no means is that easy, but that is the path to peace.

If he gets out in 2026, that's 5 years without playing football

Michael Vick in comparison, missed two years...I don't think I'd bother and if he signs with someone and blows up, I kinda don't care

Paid his debt? Tell that to the young woman who’s life was taken because this idiot drove while intoxicated. He doesn’t deserve to sniff fresh air as a free man let alone play in the NFL again. Imagine her family seeing him on TV again playing professional football after what he did.

I was recently called for jury duty, and the criminal charge was TWO counts of intoxication manslaughter. I was asked- if the accused was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of both being drunk, and causing the accident that killed 2 people, if I would consider probation as a possible sentence? I said no, that I did not consider that an appropriate punishment. Since probation is legally mandated as a possible punishment, I was disqualified for jury duty. Almost all of the approximately 150 potential jurors responded the same way, so a mistrial was declared.

These laws need adjusting. I don't think society can lock someone in jail forever for a mistake, but a slap on the wrist is not acceptable either.

it may not be the ideal answer,

but i would appreciate it if the Franchises invested on attempting to keep players from doing stupid things. i know its not a perfect answer, i know we shouldnt force them, but many of them dont mind the government telling them what to do, yes our younger generations are NOT equipped for the real world and making kids millionaires should NOT be the way in this country, but we do it.
