Now on the surface this sounds idiotic, but the situation we are in is quite idiotic.

Maher is one of the best kickers 50+ yds in the league, yet he is "Maybe Maher" inside the 50. Would you feel more comfortable with 2 kickers on the roster, one that is money from say inside the 45, and Maher for the longer kicks?

I don't know how I'd feel about it, but the ability to have a 75% chance of hitting a 59 yard FG is extremely desirable.

I can see where you're coming from Brian. Ain't happening, but I can get your thinking.

Why not?
We have 3 second-rate QBs.

Of course. Mayer has been extremely shaky/bad the last few weeks. Every kick vs the Giants, including extra points, barely made it or missed. If their was a consistent kicker from 40 yards on in, hell yes. I would rather have an extra kicker active, than Rico or our 6th
receiver. What does Rico play 1-4 snaps?
If we lose this game because Mayer misses an extra point, blame the FO and Garrett for not at least trying out a short range kicker. Don’t say there are not any kickers out their. We don’t know, if we don’t even try any out!!!!

What’s the saying, “if you have two kickers , then you don’t have a kicker”

I’ve had the same thoughts. Seems like we’ve done this before.. Who do we cut? Rush lol

Well, I seem to recall a time years ago when a few teams toyed with carrying two kickers...one, a kickoff specialist (their kickoffs were almost certain touch backs), and one solely for field goals. Nobody would do that today because most kickoffs are touchbacks anyways, with kickoffs taking place from the 35 yd line (as opposed to the 30 yd line back then). So, your concept isn't without precedent, it was just done for a different reason. JG (as do most coaches) greatly values every roster spot and wouldn't use one of those on a second kicker, IMO.
