Would you trade #4 to the Jets for Muhammad Wilkerson and their first?

The writer at Cowboyswire would.

Why not swap 2016 1st round picks with the Jets for Muhammad Wilkerson?

Going from fourth overall to 20th seems a steep drop, but makes sense for a variety of reasons. For starters, the math. It’s widely reported the Jets want a first-rounder in exchange for Wilkerson. The difference, according to the traditional value chart, between the fourth and 20th picks is 950 points, the value of the 17th pick in the draft.

No player drafted 4th overall will be able to provide the immediate impact Wilkerson would have for the Cowboys next season. Wilkerson would solve the pass rush woes, and give defensive coordinatorRod Marinelli a new toy to move around the line, making things easier for everyone else on the defense.

At 26, Wilkerson would fit right into the core of a revamped defensive line featuring younger players such as Tyrone Crawford (26), DeMarcus Lawrence (23), Cedric Thornton (27) and Randy Gregory (23).

In this trade scenario, we pick up Wilkerson to fortify our DL and draft Lynch at 20. Any takers?

No way in hell. That #4 pick would bring a heck of a lot more than one starting DT in a move to #20.

He would make a great 3 tech but they are already paying Crawford 9 avg. He might make a great LE too. But I don't see how you can fit him in your salary cap structure when he's at 15+ million for 1 year and would need to be extended for more.

I know Wilkerson is a force at DT and DE and can be dominant. I also know he's on a 1 yr franchise tag. So I would do a trade if:

A) Marinelli (& Wilkerson) believe he can be a 3 down DE opposite of Lawrence.

B) Wilkerson and Dallas agrees to a long tern deal. I don't mind paying him a lot. Difference makers at QB and DE are worth the money (especially since Wilkerson is only 26).

C) See if you can squeeze a 3rd or 4th out of NYJ. If not I would still really consider it.

Bottom line, never say never but I don't think all that would happen so I don't think it's likely but it's a great question imo.

Drop 16 spots and then have to pay him a record contract. Pass
If he was signed it might be different but there is a reason he's making what he's making and that's he wants huge money, and will get it
Much like the Roy Williams trade, never trade for a guy you got to then sign because he then has you by the b**ls

It makes sense from the standpoint that you could consider Wilkerson your first round draft pick .there is no one at 4 you will get that's better than him . But there is that dang money situation to consider.

I'd trade 2 first round picks for JJ watt so I guess I'll swap first round picks for Wilkerson if he will workout a 4-5 year contract. All in for the Super Bowl baby.

I don't think so, not for a guy coming back from a broken leg who wants over $50 million guaranteed. Plus, if we hold on to #4 and one of those quarterbacks or Elliot is still on the board, we might get a fantastic offer to move down. Or, we can just use the pick ourselves, which would have a total max cost of maybe 23 million for 4 years and an option on the fifth, less than half of what Wilkerson wants guaranteed.
